Default Wind Noise from Windshield

After 4 weeks of having the LX, i am really loving it. Still getting used to a few things, though. For instance, if on the highway, traveling 70mph or more, i notice a lot of wind noise off of the windshield area. Is this pretty common?

My last car was an INFINITI G and i really only noticed this kind of noise if there were wind gusts coming across the highway while traveling.

Wanted to know if this is something i should look into, or just the way the airflow travels on the LX.

Thanks!

Brian

Well, an LX will have somewhat more wind noise at higher speeds. It basically has aerodynamics of a brick. Just like any other 4x4.

Having said that it is still should be acceptable, and would not be offensive. If you really notice the noise, most likely the windshield was replaced by a none-oem one. I noticed the same thing once I replaced it and did not insist on the OEM one regardless of the cost. Big difference. Luckily for me that one did not last long either and I did not repeat my mistake

The other possibility is a poor replacement job. AFAIK you need proper rubber fitment etc when replacing the glass, also get the OEM kit for this. A small gap and not proper setup WILL make it really loud, and not all techs are trained to do it properly on the LX.

The wind noise doesn't become really noticeable until 75+mph. Even then, there should be NO whistling whatsoever. If you get any whistling, your windshield was not installed properly. The driver's side wiper blade should have a plastic wind deflector that clips onto it while the PS has none.

Jim, the wind deflector that you have on the driver's side wiper, is that an OEM part? Or did you order that blade?

I can't find an OEM wiper with a deflector on it from LEXUS.

Jim,

I noticed yesterday that the noise does start at around 75mph, and in fact comes from the area around the VIN# label at the lower part of the windshield on the driver's side. When i looked on the outside of the glass, i also noticed that is the area where the wiper arm connects to the vehicle and there is a circular hole in the plastic leaf guard. Is that the problem and there is no fix?

Thanks for the information everyone. The dealership did recently have the windshield replaced on the LX and yesterday i had them replace it again because i felt the last install was not correct and causing the wind noise. Sure enough, the problem has been corrected with the new install.

Try this.

My 470 whistles at +80mph from drivers window. My "fix" is to bump the window down button and it will sometime cure a clearance fitment defect and stop the roar.

70mph and a 20mph headwind is a *****.

My noise on my 470 appears to be coming from the rear. Any ideas on what to correct?

Move the cross supports on your roof rack closer to the rear. Just loosen them and slide. I've done that with all my LX's took care of the wind noise.
