Default Remote master key programming for LX470

Here's the story. I recently purchased a 2002 LX470. It only came with a valet key. I purchased a pre-cut master key. I have the following questions:
1. What is the programming instrutions for the 470? Found lots of other programming instructions but none specific to this model.
2. If I do mess up will the vehicle be immobilized?

Your help will be greatly appreciated. First Lexus, very satisified, don't think I can drive another vehicle.

I thought you had to have at least one master key to program another one. That or the key code, which comes on a tag when you buy the vehicle new. I thought w/ no master key, you'd have to replace the entire ECU...cost is like $1500 plus labor. Lexus offers a one-time replacement for the ECU, but you pay labor (in case, say, you're on a cruise ship and drop your keys in the ocean).

Still not certain that the ECU has to be replaced. Found on the GS forum that the system can be reflashed and then reprogrammed. It also sounds like the replacement program is still in place. I haven't had good luck with the dealer in Albuquerque so I'm leaning towards a locksmith. Also concerned about missing master keys, it would be safer to have them removed from the system.

I have a 99 LX470 and I have the remote/key, however, the plastic remote part has come apart and we've quazi fixed it for the time being. Now the remote isn't working though. Will I be able to get a new key and have it programmed without the remote working?

Locksmith Charley can reflash the ECU. Cost is $150.

another reason is that the key doesnt work is because it has a different immbolizer and that it has a different code..because i had to take a new key to cut because i needed another one for an extra and he had to run a program to detect if it is the right immbolizer and the right key for both master and the new key to copy successfully. (ex: TI, crypto, etc etc.)

Hi there, I have a 2006 LX 470 and I just ordered a cut remote key from Sewell. I am trying to program the new key. I have one remote master key and I noticed there are two separate instructions - drdetailshop and programkey.doc seen on this thread. Which is correct ? and if I mess up the sequence, what are the consequences ? Is my master key safe while I am programming the new key ? Is this how the dealerships are programming the keys or do they have a machine ?

Thanks
