Default Brake pad problem?

I have a 98 LX470. Just had dealer put on new brake pads. Now I have a metallic clanking sound going over bumps in the road. When I put on my brakes the clanging/clanking stops. It sounds like it comes from the front drivers side. I also have a metallic clanking sound when I initially step on the brakes. It occurs about 60% of the time, usually at lower speeds. The dealer said the bump noise is from a loose pad kit(?) or something like that. The dealer said the noise from applying the brakes is from the new pads making contact and/or having cleaner brake parts from the recent repair when rust may have been cleaned off. It seems strange to me. Is this something I will need to deal with for the duration? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would surely like the dealer to fix if they caused the issues. Thanks.

take it back and have them fix it. they might not have installed the shims that go with the pads. Or, it could be something else.

your brakes should not make any rattling noises.

who did your brakes? the dealership?

Thanks for the response. I have taken it to the dealer twice since the problem started. Both times nothing done. I like the dealer and service otherwise. However, maybe there are some buzz words I can use to make them understand. Could it be the shim kit needs replacing? Lexus said some brake noise is usual. Is that right? Should I bring it to Toyota for a check?

brake noise "clicking/clanking" could be considered normal if say, you are driving foward, stop put it in reverse back up a little and then hit the brakes. Constant "clicking/clanking" may need a new shim kit to tighten things up. Speaking of brakes i need to get new ones soon i think, thanks for the reminder.

IIRC, the factory manual says to replace the anti-squeal shims the same time as the pads. You also need to use the special anti-squeal grease on the shims. I'm not sure if the pads come w/ shims (they did on my honda, but no grease).

So the anti-squil, if I get this right prevents your brakes from squeaking when you press on the brakes, right!

I certainly hope. Why would they call it an anti-squeal shim if it didn't?
