same happened to me...The total cost including tow was $735...The iginition cam shaft is made out of pot ash metal.. The part was $200 Labor $480 and tow $55...Later learned the car can be started with a screwdriver after removing the collar..Also, the broken part can be replaced w/o removing the entire steering wheel...The how to is posted on a past thread..Can remember the specific thread...Hope this helps.........

here is a side by side of the new vs old Notice how much thicker the new part on the bottom is in the area where they break.

This just happened to me - $700 out the door from a non-dealer repair shop in Los Angeles. For such a great vehicle they blew on the design of this part.
