Default aftermerket ECT sensor too small???

Hey guy's I just brought my 90 ls400 to the mechanic today and he told me that my coolant sensor/ect was busted so I went to auto zone, orielly, and napa looking for the part and for some reason the part that they all had in stock were like a half inch too short and the bolt around the top was too small. The one that came off my ls is noticeably larger than the ones they had. I looked up the part number engraved on the part and it came out as "Fuel system - Fuel induction - Fuel injection - Cold start module"
part number was 8946220020
I think it's a really early piece cause I seen the old toyota TEQ inscribed on it. I tried doing a search but I came out with nothing.
I was wondering if anyone else had come up with this issue and if you have how did you get the correct part? I read in past threads that another user had used this part number 8942220010 which came out online as a coolant temp sensor, but after visiting 3 auto stores and they all have the same smaller units I'm a little hesitant to order it online fearing that it'll be the wrong part.

Thanks For any and all of your help Eric.

anyone have any input??? A theory? A guess? should I just go and get it from lexus?

got some pics for reference

and this is the one that all the auto parts stores are pulling up

if you compare the two the washer on mine is much bigger and the original part is like a 1/4 in longer.

U went to three auto parts store. They don't carry lexus OEM parts. Don't get that autozone crap that's gonna last 5 months....Order from www.lexuspartsonline.com or www.sewellpartsonline.com. They are both factory lexus OEM suppliers and they WILL send you the same part that the lexus dealer would...just you're paying less money....I ordered from both sites b4 with no problems.

Thanks sik96ls400 for your reply.
So should I just go by the part number on the part itself or go by what I believe the part to be? Cause according to lexus when I search the part number on the part itself it's telling me that it's a "Fuel system - Fuel induction - Fuel injection - Cold start module" and that doesnt sound right to me. I thought the part dealt with coolant so I'm really confused. Thanks for your help Eric

The pic of the new part looks okay. Length does not matter. The connector is most important and if it fits it will work. The tip will read the water temp.

Default wrong part, not ECT

Seeing how sethjon brought this up, the part that einthe512 took out of the car is not the ECT, it's the "Start Injector Time Switch". You can see in this from Sewell; http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...S400-1990.html The part he removed (8946220020) is to the left of the thermostat housing, the ECT (8942220010) is farther left and under the plastic tray for the spark plug wires. $125 difference in price for these OEM parts. The electrical connectors aren't the same for both parts, thankfully, or the wrong part could be installed. Someone else just had a problem like this, (connectors were different) I'll look for that thread to let him know also.

einthe512; If you do end up seeing this, seeing how it was 1 1/2 years ago, where on the engine did this part come out of? (pics?) Did you ever find and install the correct part in the correct place?
