Hello everyone i am a new member her i just recently purchased a 1999 lexus ls 400 and on the dash it shows tail lamp failure but all my bulbs are working any ideas or even a way to totally bypass it and make the light go away ... please help
Inspect each bulb for a loose filament and each bulb socket for corrosion and that the bulb fits tightly against the contacts. Inspect the connectors for each of the four rear light modules. If the bulbs are blackened from age, consider replacing all the rear bulbs. Other possibilities are a bad or corroded ground wire in the trunk. Be patient and you will find the problem.
Most likely 3rd brake light behind rear window. Even if it works change it because the resistance changes with time. Already happened to me on 3 different toyotas
I tested one 98 LS on the lot, same problem. The guy told me he replaced all the tail light and still there is an error msg on the dash. The error shows up right after I press the brake. Maybe the 3rd brake light?
Don't just check the third brake light change it even if it works
sam you are a life saver ... thank you... third brake light worked but i changed the bulbs anyway and just as you said it solved it no more annoying message reading tail lamp failure.... and to think i was going to take it to lexus to have them check... that would have been a hefty bill
