This just worked for me. All of my lights worked. I first looked at the lid lamps, and found one on the way out, but didn't fix the problem. Then I found one that looked a little grey in a taillamp, but that didn't fix the problem either. Both of the lights in the 3rd housing looked stock (I can't be sure). Neither had much printed on them other than 1906, which I assumed to be an alternate number since I didn't find it at the store.

The manual suggested 921 18w and those did the trick.

This was a huge relief since the Failure notice has been present since I bought the car.

This might also be a good addition to the sticky.

Thanks again awesome forum.

Replace your third brake light bulb (the one in the rear window) even if it is working and your problem will be solved. It seems with time the bulb changes resistance and triggers the light on the instrument panel

My light eventually burned out! Around 120k. I bought it when it had 78K and the dealer would replace all bulbs and not explore it any further. Apparently they didn't change out the 3rd brake light. Unfortunately Luthor 2 was hit at 134K a year ago.
I must say I am enjoying my LS 430 that was it's replacement. However now when a bulb goes out I get a red exclamation point in my tach along with the message above the trip computer. At least I know it's really out.

Seems things always pop up with the LS. My lamp idiot light came on the other day when i was on the highway don't remember touching the brake. Comes on when you hit the brake after a start. I have changed the center bulbs and all 4 brake bulbs. So now i am down to what? Harness looks good. Just funny how out of no where it came on. Was hoping was a bad bulb.

The center ones turned gray but still worked one brake was dark too but again worked.

How often is it the module can go bad? Guess i will have to get a used one and see what happens next.

^ our cars have 6 bulbs for brake lights, not just 4. the gray ones mean they are almost going to burn out. why not replace them as well?

sidenote: i plan to replace these bulbs into LED (i have all-clear tails) and would like to see if i can load the module to where it thinks the right resistance is present, rather than get a load resistor for each bulb (we have too many brake lights lol). anyone have a schematic of the module? i don't have a FSM.

Yep i did replace all 6. Does the module check all outside bulbs???

The manual says if light comes on when you just turn driving lights than its one of those. If when you hit brakes than the brake bulbs.

i never knew that the module checks for other bulbs. i have LEDs on the corner bulbs and markers and it has not triggered any lights.

**** Okay i now see that there are 3 brake lights to each side so all together there are 8.

The socket was one issue and now after closer look the bulb on lid driver side is not working. So i believe it will be resolved.

Now have to go get two orange tinted 1157 bulbs since the tails are clear.

Not sure. Why does the trunk lid light have a bulb with 2 filaments? The back up light is a single. The brake lights are just on the side ones with turn signals. I went over these and the trunk lid light had a bad socket i swapped it out with a spare hoping but dummy light came on again.
