Default Doing a muffler delete

I've done a search but get different answers.

Would it be best to delete the final 2 mufflers?

Are you guys running aftermarket mufflers to replace them, or just straight through pipes?

Alright,

Ive done several combinations.

1st of all, the stock rear mufflers are crap. But don't go replacing them with just pipe.

But if you just replace the mid 2 mufflers with pipe and keep the stock rear mufflers, if doesnt really make a difference.

If you just replace the rears with straight though items you start to hear the exhaust, quiet but is there, can just hear while driving.

But if you replace the mid 2 mufflers with pipe replace the rear mufflers with 2 straight though items or cannons. You will get a fairly nice sound that is still near silent on idle but has a nice pur under acceleration.

If that is not loud enough, replace the very front single muffler with straight pipe. (This is my fav combination) Sounds very nice. Very refined sounding, not blabby or fluttery.

Well thats my opinion anyway

Even better, just unbolt the system just after the 1st muffler, sounds a bit to thumpy for a luxury car tho

I did that once, sounds like a tamed small block Chevy. I'm still planning on axing the resonators and placing 2 Magnaflows in their place. I still need to keep the center cat, otherwise a X-pipe sounds tempting...

i like my cat-back setup

the "classic" muffler delete is removing the rear most mufflers and having straight pipes+tips run to the bumper.

You'll get better performance if you leave the pipes off unless you use Mendral Bends in the pipes.

I run no resonators, OEM Ypipes and Magnaflow mufflers (4" x 10" tips) and like the sound I had regular muffler delete and truthfully it was fine. However, I wanted a more radical sound.

Are you saying you replaced the rear mufflers with straight through piping?

Anyway, thanks for the replies guys, especially UCF11. I'm going into the shop tomorrow and see what they say.
I'll try and have a listen without the rear muffler and hear what it sounds like. If that's not enough, I'll consider replacing all 4 mufflers with 2 free-flowing ones.

BTW UCF11, why do you say not to replace the rear mufflers with JUST piping?

So people go thru the expense of this mod just to change the sound?
Amazed at no reports of performance changes.

Yeah just for sound if you can imagine that - me modifying mine was due to the exhaust system scraping as I drove into my garage. By eliminating all the resonators it stopped - and the sound was there.

Maybe there are some that have dyno numbers but if you find old threads the system is tricky and changing it usually results in loss of power for most people.

My setup seems to have given me mid range power and perhaps a slight loss on take off - with no dyno numbers I am guessing tho.

removing the last 2 mufflers makes very little difference to sound or performance IMO. If you want an exhaust that screams "V8", replace all 4 with 2 straight thru final mufflers. If that's too loud for you, replace them with 2 high flow chamber mufflers and you'll hear the exhaust but it wont be excessive.

No, me and a friend "uncorked" the exhaust for laughs and giggles.

Got a quote today.......$800 to replace the 4 mufflers with 2 1/4" piping and 2 free-flowing mufflers.

Damn, might have to give this mod a miss. I thought it was cheap to do lol
