Wow, I really don't think you could do that on an LS400 or 430. My jaw dropped at this video. My 430 still feels like a tank and cocoon. I should hope it wouldn't be this easy to disassemble it.

 

But yet German cars age so badly. Creaks and rattles after a few years. Japanese cars feel brand new after 100k miles.

 

Sorry, but I fail to see how easy and quick to assemble/disassemble and lack of screws/bolts/fasteners on its own, equates to "**** poor build quality". From my experience, the interior fit and finish of the the LS500 is as good or better than the competitors in the segment. The fact that Lexus could achieve that on the LS in this fashion speaks to their excellent engineering and design skills. What issues did you come across, specifically, that were "poor quality"?

 

I say as long as the bones, brains, and heart are good the rest of the skin will eventually deteriorate and age with time. I can also see how you could equate this build quality with future issues with noise i.e. squeaks & rattles in the interior, but only time will tell. People like to see nuts and bolts to tie things like that down more solidly as in older cars. I for one believe that the Japanese prolly found a simpler way (cost & time cutting) to achieve the same results. I did see people take out the back seats of older Gen LS’s without using any tools in a matter of minutes. I know that all vehicles has certain soft spot areas where you can take it apart with your bare hands. Not gonna lie though, the videos look concerning, but think about all the other cars that’s bolted down and still hear all types of clatter coming from inside. I’m not even touching on the road and wind noise in some of the other manufacturers vehicles, that’ll drive a person bonkers.

 

OP has some serious skill. I couldn't take one thing apart if I tried. I tried to get my underside wheel cover off to lube the telescoping motor and couldn't even do that.

 

Concerning, but as someone mentioned, only time will tell. No squeaks rattles at 9k miles, but I guess that’s expected. Maybe it’s a subject for a new thread, but I’m curious who has the highest mileage LS here so far? Wonder how that car is fairing quality wise.

 

I'm sure just fine. But yes that video is a tad disconcerting.

 

28,500 miles on mine. I have a dash rattle that seems to be coming from around the air vents that I've been contending with since day 1. No noise during cooler weather, but when it warms up, it rattles a bit when driving on rough roads. Most of my passengers don't notice it until I point it out, but it drives me nuts. Will address it again with the dealer next month at the 30,000 mile service.

 

this is exactly my point a screw or bolt wont expand or contract during temp changes.. no other car at this price point is as poorly assembled except maybe the Genesis line (but its Hyundai so that's to be expected). time will prove my point. this design tactic is calculated.. I believe that in 4-5 yrs (just after the warranty runs out these parts will start too fail.. (creak , crack or otherwise become problematic) thus bringing u into the dealer for a dealer only part.. $$$$ My Ls460 is rock solid with 130k miles.. I had seriously considered purchasing the 500 until I took it apart... my thought is a car worth more than 80k should be built to last...

 

so its your "honest" belief that an S class Merc or even the 7 series BMW (bmw have electronic issues but are built like tanks) are inferior to this!!! in this case the opposite is true. I recently took apart the 2019 AMG GT63s it was a sturdy build (a mix of screws, bolts & clips) took over 30 mins to disassemble the drivers side dash area..

 

WTF then, why would Lexus drop the ball like this? My 430 interior is dirty right now but detail it and it would look brand new. I've never heard a squeak or rattle either.

 

I didn't say that at all. I said the just because it's quick and easy to disassemble and reassemble and in your opinion there weren't enough screws/fasterers present, does not constitute "**** poor quality". I challenged you to come back with specific examples of poor quality items in the assembly. Did something break when you took it apart or put it back together? Ignoring the fact that no car builder designs a dashboard to be "user removable", what specifically were your quality issues?

I also didn't claim that the LS500 was superior to all the other models you mentioned, I only claimed that from my experience, the interior fit and finish of the LS500 is at least as good as the competitors in the segment, and in some cases better.
