Default Steering Wheel Volume Buttons Working Oddly

Hello everyone,

Encountered an odd issue with my steering wheel buttons. So the up and down buttons on the top left of the steering wheel don’t change the track but rather only RAISE the volume. The volume up and down button located above the voice control button only LOWER the volume. Note, the voice control button works as it should. The steering wheel has never been removed. Anyone have an idea what can be the reason?

I don’t have a cause or resolution but my car has exhibited this odd behaviour very occasionally.

In my case mostly the volume buttons would both do down. Circular volume control is unaffected.

Also very occasionally in cruise pushing up of the stalk would result in a response like a tap down.

Very occasionally is maybe once a month for 5 seconds.

Very odd.

As a car ages, there is a part in the steering wheel that can go bad. It is a cable that goes to all the control buttons. It's called a "clock spring" because it's wound up in a coil so the steering wheel can can turn circles. Neither of you mention the year or miles in your cars but this can happen at any age but typically not on a new car. The fix is a new clock spring unit. The steering wheel is removed, the old part unplugs and the new part plugs in. Pretty simple other than getting the wheel off and back on straight. Any auto repair shop can fix this.

2007. Ah I knew it. I'm not going to bother changing it then, my volume **** works perfectly. Thanks for the input

As long aș you don't get an airbag (SRS) light and the horn works, repair is optional or can be put off.
