Default HELP - LS 2014 TPMS displays dashes

Periodically my dash tire pressure displays all dashes. Other days it will display proper tire pressure. Dealer said if one TPMS sensor is weak, the lack of communication will cause all to be blank dashes. Dealer said they cant tell which one is failing, do would have to replace all 5 for $1200. Told them no way at that price. Are there any reliable solutions that would be cheaper?? I think dealer ripping me off.

If batteries are all the same age, and they would be, it only makes sense to replace all at once. Tire places can do it much cheaper than a dealer. Just make sure they can program it for Lexus.

That's false I think, I had one from 07 that was super weak and didn't always report in but the others all reported.

That price is insane but does use the OE sensors, Costco is a option that can order equivalents or a very affordable generic. I went with equivalents for $270 but was not charged for them.

Not 100% sure as I didn't get charged for them. I would assume labor would have been $20 a tire since that's standard mounting cost

Costco charged me about $150 for replacements (5) with tire purchase. I waited until I needed tires after they went out. Don't know what the big deal is with these things anyway. I routinely check my tires including pressures.

Your method makes the most sense and is economical. This is my plan for my 2013, they are still working fine BTW.

Those were likely the generics, are your valve stems metal or plastic/rubber?

They are very useful for high speed driving to monitor everything I've found, also easy to check psi since they are accurate.

Jed149, thanks for your response. A lot cheaper than dealer $1200 just to replace sensors. So Costco was able to program the new TPMS sensors and display correctly on your dash? Thanks again for response.

Yes they are generics, REDI-SENSOR 7002A which are the same ones installed by Discount Tire I'm told, Pep Boys and many others. The valve stems are metal. It's been about a year and have had no problems. I can't say enough good things about Costco's tire department. First class operation. I used to go to Tire Kingdom but that place is a rip off now. Last time I went there with a leaking tire to be repaired, they immediately said I needed an alignment. BTW, Lexus wanted around $700 for sensor replacements plus a $75 "testing" fee.

Thats good, I went with the specific ones since my Costco generics were rubber stem. Nice!

Definitely the most cost effective is to wait until you need new tires. If you have to do it before that time, you should also have the tires balanced since they will be removed from the wheel. Although I have seen a technique where they simply pry the tire away at the valve stem and replace the TPMS without actually removing the tire.

Thanks everyone for your good responses. You all have saved me $1200 the dealer wanted just to replace all 5 TPMS. The Service Mgr has even emailed me suggesting i get them replaced because of safety hazard. And they do work intermittently. Also it still flashes tire low, when the spare was low even all displaying dashes. Great suggestions to use Costco. I will wait until i need new tires. I still have a tire pressure guage i can use if needed. Thanks for all your help.
