Started noticing oil leaking onto garage floor, took into the Toyota dealership and was told OIL LEAKING FROM ENGINE, CAM HOUSINGS AND VALVE COVER GASKETS ARE LEAKING quoted 2700 repair. Is this typically for this repair? Also saw on a earlier post that this typically happens on higher mileage as I only have 139K, can’t see sinking 2700 into a 8-9K vehicle any ideas?
Toyota is less expensive than Lexus for repairs, but I imagine there are a few independent shops in your area who can do the work for less. Leaking gaskets don't mean the engine or car is worthless junk. I guess it depends on how much you like your Lexus car. We're a bit biased here and love the LS460. What else would you buy that comes even close for equivalent money? Only you can answer that.
I’m sure my wife would let me go before the car, guess the question I have would be the ease of 1-10 to do this on my own, very limited in mechanics skills, and other would be is this something that needs to be done right away? Seems like it’s going from top dot to bottom dot on dipstick after 5k miles

Have you try Bar's leak to stop it while getting a permanent fix?
LOL, make the wife happy! Instead of us telling you how hard WE think it is, try doing some searches for each item. (Mostly, the job is time consuming). There's bound to be some photos. Best way to search the forum is using google.
Type in "LS460 replacing valve gaskets clublexus". you'll get a bunch of results. Also YouTube has some videos on LS460 repairs. Hope this helps.
My indy mechanic is charging me $500 for the valve cover gasket. I think the part is cheap, but it's many hours of labor removing everything from the top of the engine:

If you can find a good long time Toyota repair person they can do the repairs on this car if they’re willing.
It's not hard, 2-3/10 max difficulty wise. Be careful with the high pressure pumps.
It's a royal pain in the a$$! And, unless you're a very capable mechanic, there's a VERY good chance it will still leak after you go through all that! And there's two of them. And the cam cover is no fun either!
That's the price we pay for owning an older LS460. You gotta pay to play!

Uh.....my bad then? Took me two hours in my garage lol! Biggest issue was being careful with the DI pump and getting the modules over the drivers side rear cover out of the way.
It usually takes me 2-4 times longer than a dealership mechanic. I am OK with that, at least, I do not have to worry about quality of my work unlike work done at dealerships.
Nah, I'm average I would say but thanks lol! I'm not fast but this car is well known by me already since I've done two before owning mine so I had an unfair advantage knowing what needed to be done. Watch me work on something I've not fake before and it's a struggle to match book time. I rather not break anything and I have the curse of I got into this due to it being a hobby and personal fascination with how cars work so I often just stop and stare to analyze everything and try and figure out why things are packaged how they were.
Plus Lexus is just stupid easy to work on and I have already looked well into them so no distractions analyzing the design lol!
