Default Jump start location on dead car

Just had my battery replaced few weeks back. Wanted to know where you all attach your ground cable on the dead car? I see a lot of dead battery issues but no one specifically addressed where to hook up the ground cable on the dead car.

I saw a dealer on YouTube attaching the ground cable to the hood strut on the dead car to jump it. Not sure if that’s workable.

Any unpainted chasis or metal body part will do the job plenty of places that are better than hood strut

I used the negative battery terminal, it worked fine for me.

Our cars are covered with panels. I’ve tested the voltage among several grounds and non-grounded points. Just want an easier location without removing more than the battery cover. Maybe im old school, but I was taught to never use the negative terminal on the dead car?

And that is correct. That's because a spark can occur when using the negative post. Batteries contain sulfuric acid which can become vapors and leak out of vents . These vapors can be highly flammable and a spark could actually create an explosion. This happened to a friend of mine who almost lost his eyesight.

Sulfuric acid and its vapors are oxidizers, that makes it non combustible. It may produce hydrogen gas upon contact with most metals. But that is a different story.

I stand corrected. However, the point is an explosion can occur when using the negative post.

Use the negative post, unless you have a really old flooded cell that is simply oozing hydrogen it won't explode. AGM and gel cells will never have this risk at any level and can be/are mounted inside cars.

Ive jumped probably 350-500 cars and it's never been an issue even with damaged batteries in some cases
