Default Headlights left on killed battery

I'm trying to understand how I was able to leave my headlights on while I was out at a restaurant this evening-killing the battery. The headlights were set to auto. The doors latch themselves and were shut. The key was in my pocket and at least 100' away. Windows were shut and the doors were locked (by door handle button).

I'm totally willing to admit a mistake. But I can't think if anything I might have done to cause the scenario. Any thoughts?

Some LS460s experience problems with door jam switches which could be a possible cause of the issue you experienced. You may want to research this issue on the forum for more info. It is a relatively inexpensive DIY fix

Save your confession, it’s unlikely you caused this. There is no setting to automatically extinguish the headlights after the ignition is turned off. That feature is autonomous, It has no controls

Silverpaws has given you some good advice.

This happened to me as well. Once I read the thread about the door jam switch, it never happened again.

I did a quick read through of that post. Really informative.

I wonder if the torrential downpour and accidentally splashing through some deeper puddles may have caused this issue in some way. I was able to jump my car with my wife's car just fine. No warning lights. Everything worked as it should. I'm trickle charging the battery now. I'm going to check the switches today.

Out of curiosity, how long were you in the restaurant? A good battery, IMO, should last longer than a couple of hours with the head lights left on. I'd have it checked.

Probably an hour and a half.
I'm a bit concerned about the battery too. It's been charging on a Battery Tender for 11 hours and it's not done.
