Default Transfer case fluid a lifetime fluid?

Title says it all. I’m getting ready to change out transmission and both front and back differential fluid @ 42k on 2014 AWD Fsport. Is the transfer case fluid lifetime? I hear that stuff has to be oem and also read on this and GX469 forums some use the 75w90 differential fluid in transfer case. Will I have the infamous “shudder” issues if I use Ravenol 75w over the oem magic oil from Toyota ? Lol

"Toyota/Lexus lifetime" = 10 years/100k miles. I used Mobil 1 75w90 on mine, it seems to be OK.

Yes, there is virtually no difference between 75w-85 and 75w-90. Mobil 1 75w-90 is GL-5 compliant. Also, it is what my local Lexus dealer uses.

did you get that photo of specific oils from the owners manual? I thought 75W has different properties compared to a 75W90

I have a 2014 LS, what year is your car? How long ago/miles did you fill up the transfer case with 75W90?

Get a manual from Lexus owner's website or you use a paper copy. It should be written in it what is the required fluid.

Hi Zetascry,
I have a 2014 AWD (80K miles) and had the fluids changed last August. Check thread below, particularly from post #11 onwards.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...iff-fluid.html

My car was running fine but I could feel a slight vibration in the shifter. I was hoping the fluid changes would make things silky smooth. Did not happen. In fact, I sometimes feel there is more vibration in the shifter now. In hindsight, this wasn't money well spent. If your car is running fine now, don't bother with the fluid change. There are cars here going 150K miles without changing the differential and transfer case oils.

do you mean shifter ****? I’m actually doing entire transmission flush with Amsoil signature ATF, and the differentials with their sever gear 75W90 stuff which I researched is a great product if you abuse the car. But for transfer case I heard about the shudder TSB being fixed with the newer improved 75W oil which “permanently” fixes the issue.

dude my cars 7 years old with 42K miles and I feel that’s long enough lol

Researched and found out the Toyota WS Transmission fluid is not good with heat, especially in an fsport transmission that’s being abused lol

Yeah I would definitely change the tranny, diffs and transfer case fluids. And I think it’s more than fine to use 75W90 in an application that calls for 75W85. I’ve done it many many times for literally 100’s of thousands of miles. No issues whatsoever. No drop in fuel economy, nothing. In fact it probably adds just a slight bit more protection/viscosity.
