Default Any advantage of 75w-90 diff fluid?

I can’t decide between redline 75w-85 and Mobile 1 75w-90. And for reference, I’m going to get the Lexus LL80 for the transfer case.

75w-90 is much cheaper. I asked Toyota about the two, and I was told that they use 75w-90 even when 75w-85 is required.

75w-85 provides better fuel efficiency and, I believe, it is less viscous on cold start.

so, what would you do then...
1) Buy Toyota 75w-85
2) Buy Redline 75w-85
3) Buy Mobil 1 75w-90

I used Mobil 1 75w-90 in my Toyota (not Lexus) instead of 75w-85. It is was recommended by a Toyota dealer. And it is what I am going to use in my LS460 when I get to it. If you don't mind paying extra, you can get Toyota 75w-85. I have no experience with Redline products.

I am going to call my local Lexus dealer and ask what they use, when get some time...

From my 2014 owners manual:
Front: Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil 75W-85 GL-5 LT or equivalent (0.79 qt / 0.75 liter)
Rear: Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil 75W-85 GL-5 LX or equivalent (1.42 qt / 1.35 liter): very hard to find and pricey too!
Transfer case: Toyota Genuine Transfer Gear Oil LL80 or equivalent (0.74 qt / 0.7 liter)
Automatic transmission: Toyota Genuine ATF WS (11.3 qt / 10.7 liter)

Looks like Redline 75W-85 will substitute for both LT and LX. But there is no substitute for LL80, which must be purchased through Lexus.

I got the differential, transfer case, and ATF services done at my Lexus dealership last month. I went with their standard Mobil1 fluid for the differentials (probably 75W-90), and I bought them a can of LL80 for the transfer case. They use ATF WS for transmission. My car was running smoothly before, with a slight vibration felt in the shifter sometimes. I have not seen an appreciable improvement but I haven't driven nearly enough since to make a stronger judgement. Overall, I am happy I got the drain-and-fill service done. 80,000 miles on my car.

I don’t see the need for ultra fancy factory lubricants in our differentials. Our differentials are open, unlimited slip by design..

Thanks, I appreciate the info, I'll double check my manual as well, I think it may be important to use the LX in the rear of mine and the LL80 for the transfer case given that I have AWD. I called lexus and they were very unhelpful.

I called a local Lexus dealer and they told me that they use Mobil 1 75w-90 instead of 75w-85. I am interested what other Lexus dealers say. LL80 needs to be ordered as they don't carry it.

Most Lexus dealers don't carry it. They will instead use generic transfer case oil for $20-30. But I wanted to use LL80 (1 can is enough). They will order it for you ahead of your service visit but will mark up the price substantially. The best online price was from Longo Lexus (08885-81085 Transfer Gear Oil LL80 $134.43+shipping). I first ordered thru Discount Parts Monster because they were cheaper by $20 but they canceled the order stating hazmat regulations. Longo Lexus shipped without problems.
