Default TPMS from different wheels.

I just installed a new set of wheels on the LS460. I got the set from a 2020 Lexus Lc500. I went to discount tire and they told me that I would have to get a new set of TPMS. They told me that you can only program a set of TPMS to one car. Not sure if this is true or not, just wanted to confirm as I am new to the TPMS game, coming from a LS430 without TPMS.

Not sure I am about to find out on Monday.
I recently installed the OEM wheels off my 2014 LS to my 2011 LS and had on issues, everything work like it should. Then I replaced the battery in the 2011 and now the TPMS light on the would not clear. Went to Tires plus to get the sensors programmed to the car but the "Kid Technician" did not know how to do it . I drove out of there so fast I left tire tracks lol.
Researching the parts numbers for the sensors shows different part numbers between the years. Monday I will take it to my Buddy to see if he can program the 2014 sensors to the 2011.
Rockauto.com have the Denso sensors for about $35.00 each. Luckily I still have the stock wheels for the 2011 so the most I will have to do is swap them to the 2014 wheels.
A competent shop should be able to reprogram the sensors to your car. Try a different Tire shop and get a second opinion.

As long as each of the TPMS sensor batteries are good and they are all 315MHZ sensors (which should be a yes on both counts), then there shouldn't be an issue with having them inputted into the car and relearned/reprogrammed. I have an Autel TS508 TPMS tool and was able to do this myself when I installed new wheels/tires which included new TPMS sensors.

Were these brand new, and unregistered TPMS or wheels came off a different car and the TPMS was registered already to a different vehicle?

The person at Discount Tire was mistaken. I've switched TPMS sensors from different cars before. Discount Tire did this for me!

It is possible to copy the numbers from the original TMPS and write them in the new bought TPMS....

This way you dont need to pay extra time you change the wheels.

Whether brand new or previously owned, it should not matter. However, it could be a possibility if the software/ECU/TPMS sensors for the 2020 model was changed (but very unlikely and I highly doubt). Remember this thread? https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...-wheels-2.html

Just texted him, and he confirmed the TPMS sensors were able to be programmed into his '08 without any issues. South Florida shout out to ya Moe, thanks for the info!
May be a good idea to find a shop that is willing to program them into your ride rather than trying to sell you parts/services you don't really need.

So I just left to by Buddy's shop and he was unable to programed the 2014 sensors to my 2011 TPMS ECU. He tried everything he knows but it would not program. So, I either have to buy new sensors or swap the 2011 original sensor to the 2014 wheels.
I tried Kauffman/Mavis and they too were unable to program the 2014 sensors to the 2011. Not sure what is going on with my setup. Researched the parts numbers between the model years and they show different parts, however the frequency is the same.
I will keep on driving the car until I decide how to proceed. My thoughts as mentioned above it should work, not sure what is the issue with my setup.

I had went to two different places and both were not able to do it. That's why I was confused and came here.

I appreciate you contacting him. That's weird because we have the same wheels.

We apologize for the situation, to explain a bit more, as long as the vehicles utilize the same sensors they can be interchanged rather easily through reprogramming. However in your case the sensors that function for the 2020 LC500 will not work on a 07-17 ls460.

If there is anything else we can do to assist or if you have any questions feel free to reach out directly via PM.

This makes sense since I cannot get thee sensors from my 2014 to program to my 2011. I ended up buying 4 new sensors from RockAuto.com and had them installed. All good now.
