Default 07-08 vs 09-16 Engine mounts

I have a 07 and it’s time to change engine mounts. 07-08 they have a one part number 12361-38281 which they say isn’t interchangeable for the part that goes from 09-16.12361-38221. They look similar what’s the difference do you think? Won’t they fit ? Toyota says it won’t but we all know that might not.be true.

Here's another example:

2012 and again in 2013 ISF had changes to the struts, springs, power steering computer, and rear suspension arms. They show to only be compatible with 13-14 when in reality they can be used on any 08-14.

They probably have stockpiles of the old 08-11 components and instead of them going to waste and just selling everyone the new 2012+ parts, they continue to sell the old parts.

Just thought of one more. 2013 front/rear end conversions on 07-08 LS460. Part numbers are not going to show as compatible, but the parts swap right over.

I will not be surprised if "stockpile theory" is correct. But what makes me wonder is if parts fit, it does not make them compatible. Has anybody done side by side review insure that parts are dimensionally identical?

I already made another thread related to all of the control arms, steering knuckle, subframe, etc being the same 07-17 even though it's not advertised that way. The subframe and motor is the same 07-17 therefore by default the motor mounts have to be dimensionally identical.

megazip explicitly says that 12361-38221 fits 2006-18 US production. It means that 12361-38281 is same version as 12361-38221. I think, OP could have done a better online search.

I believe, 12361-38281 is an international part number for 12361-38221.

what’s an international part number? Is megazip the parts bible be all and end all that everyone should know about? Or why do you think it’s appropriate to “chastise” me for not looking hard enough 😂😂

also I looked where I usually look on Lexusparts now.com and they are essentially a dealer type source of information. It states one number for 07-08 and another for 09 and up. Also if you want to make bloody snide remarks you better have the goods to back them up in this instance you do not.

the original part number was 12361-38160 the upgraded part number is what I listed, if it was a simple matter they would have updated the part number to the same as the 09s, but they clearly chose not to in their systems for whatever nefarious reasons. Which is why I posted to ask for opinions.

You can believe what you want. There is no such thing as a dealer type source whether you believe it or not. There is a dealer and there is 3rd party. Lexuspartsnow is same kind of website as megazip and both are 3rd party. I understand it looks pretty and has part numbers on it but it has nothing to do with Lexus dealer network. Whether it is bad or good, it is a different thing. Read about "About us", it is a reseller as any other parts website.

sure that is true hence “type” so what makes your information better that this. I’m not saying it’s not the same or your info is not correct though, but maybe you should refrain from telling people they have not looked hard enough when an opinion is what they are seeking and the information I hardly definitive, although compelling.

It's good to know. When I had my 2007, I picked up Motor and Trans mounts as I felt they were needing to be replaced. The car got totaled so they are still sitting in a box.

It's good to know if i need them, they will fit my 2014....

I did some digging around and even on the Lexus of south Atlanta website which is an OFFICIAL dealer they list separate part numbers. So I put the part number in an eBay search an the listing came back as 07-18 but when I checked the car specs in the ad it only listed from 09 and up. D5o I went back to the Lexus website and checked the part numbers for the mount bracket and all models listed the same part number through the years. I was going to check the part numbers for the cross member since that's the other end that the mounts plug into but at that point I was tired of trying to figure it out.

I don't really see why the mounts would be different but who wants to order a part, wait for it to come and then have the wrong part. Easiest solution is to just call the dealer but if the parts person is not knowledgeable they will just quote what's on their screen. I just did mounts on my car and ordered the part for the 07 and I noticed that the mount was slightly different at the top of the mount. The threaded option seemed to be better made. I'm going to checked what the part number was on that mount.

Update: the mounts I got were indeed 38281.

How did you find out that the mounts need to replaced? There seems to be different issues depending on damage.

My mounts did not need to be replaced immediately. I was trying to run down this grinding noise after replacing my starter which turned out to be a bad front passenger wheel bearing. I've never had a bad wheel bearing before so I was not familiar with the sound so I was convinced something was going on with the engine. After checking multiple things and going over my work multiple times I came to the conclusion after reading some threads about other cars that my mounts might be the issue. I also noticed some dried up fluid on the driver mount so that sealed the deal. Once I changed the mounts and the noise did not go away I took the car to the dealer who told me the wheel bearing was the culprit.
