Default ls460 and ls460l question

dear all and happy new year

is the front dual pane window only on the ls460l long wheel base version?

how much quieter is the ls460l?

is the rear really only 1 inch longer inside?

is the rear executive package squeaky like on the mercedes s550?

What years are we talking? Because they changed the way the glass works after about 2009.

SWB cars have laminated glass in the front, but not in the rear. LWB cars have laminated glass in the back too. LWB cars are maybe a little quieter but pretty much the same.

LWB car has MUCH more rear legroom, all the additional length is in the rear legroom, so it’s like 4 inches.

I am looking at online reviews and it says that the car is 5 inches longer but the rear leg room is only 1 inch longer

Those reviews are wrong lol. I have had both cars. The rear seat legroom in the LS460L is significantly more than the LS460. The length difference is all in the rear legroom.

As SW17LS said, all of the extra wheelbase of a LWB model is in the back seat - it's almost an extra 5 inches. At 82,000 miles my 600 is tomb quiet inside with no noise or rattles emanating from the executive class seat package.

Not really, maybe slightly. The LWB rides a little better, and lookwise I think they look better.

No, the suspensions are exactly the same. The LWB car tends to more commonly have the air suspension, but its the same air suspension.

You will find both SWB LS460s and LWB LS460s without the air suspension. Its actually failry uncommon on the model years you're looking at.

It can be very expensive to repair when it goes bad. Personally, I think it adds a lot to the car.

The LWB is heavier than the SWB and that usually translates into a smoother ride (all other things being equal).

The difference in the wheelbase itself smooths out the ride too. The longer the wheelbase typically the smoother the ride.

Not necessarily. I have a SWB (standard wheelbase) 2007 LS 460. Years ago many owners were complaining about wind noise. In response dealers were replacing the passenger windows with the double pane glass. Although I didn't have a problem with the wind noise, my dealer still replaced the windows.

So if you are looking at a used car, check the windows for dual pane glass.
