Default ‘16 LS vs ‘19 ES

Thoughts and opinions? Can get a ‘19 loaded ES Blk on Blk Lux (Pano, ML, HUD $51k Orig MSRP) w 24k mi for $37K
or
’16 LS Atomic Silver over Parchment also loaded (ML, Comfort Pkg etc Orig $82k MSRP) w 34k no for $38k

Have driven both and understand the differences; like both...but unsure which I’d prefer long term- tend to keep my vehicles more than 5-7 yrs - fyi currently drive a mint ‘99 LS4 125k mi that I’ve owned as 2nd owner since ‘04 when I bought it w only 37k mi

hi Jeff if you have driven both and understand the differences, then your decision should be pretty simple.
Completely different cars. Some thoughts for your to ponder for your decision
If MPG is important the ES
RWD vs FWD if you drove both and your asking the question maybe the driving dynamics are not important to you completely favor the RWD
FWD wheel spin and torque steer with ES with FWD platform
Comfort of both are good the es was well done the 16 LS will be more comfortable with much more interior room
V6- vs v-8 again if you drove both you decide, linear power and seamlessness of the v8 still much better than the great v6 in the ES obvious the mpg should be noted
Interior with technology and state of the art Toyotas safety 2.0 big win for the ES, simpleness wins in the LS, different strokes for different folks
Paint and finish superior in the LS, ES is fine but not in same class
handling ES wins even with FWD in corners

enjoy the decision you will make the right choice just drove both again and think about what's important just to you not others

Two completely different vehicles, so there is really no comparison. For only $1k difference in price, I see it as a no brainer to go with the LS.

The LS is a completely superior car in every way aside from operating costs.

No matter what you do, you’ll miss your 2nd gen LS.

you’re so right; which is prob why I haven’t been able to pull the trigger - the 2nd Gen ‘99 LS not only best car I’ve ever owned, or prob ever will, but has to be one of the best ever

One gets seduced into “something new” after owning even the great 2nd Gen LS after almost 20 yrs, but something tells me all the new tech and safety gadgets can’t make up for that build quality of the early LS and that amazing V8 amd ride

another option I’ve considered is keeping it and adding a SC400 to satisfy my jag E type lust! Lol

Jeff, cool pics of the 99, I had a 98, a 2002 and now the 2010 LS,

From my past mistakes with selling vehicles and buying ones. I would like to share;

the 99 and the LS your looking at are so different that you may miss some of the things you enjoy In the 99.

I suggest you drive some used LS's In the years your looking at there are plenty of them on used market before you buy.

I am pressed for time and don't have time to do the differences now but usually when I see someone enjoy, love, and hesitate to get into the next vehicle of choice it sets up for disappointment without proper vetting..
vet, drive, and feel 100% excited to move forward with the next one and you will be happy.

Having owned and loved my 94 LS400, it would be hard pressed to find a replacement. But, now you're talking about considering a smaller, completely different vehicle in comparison to a big step up in car. The LS as you, know is going to give you the closest feel to your 400 adding all the more current bells and tech whistles. I wish you luck in your decision.

Going from the LS400 to the ES will ultimately be a disappointment. Trust me, I know lol. Once the newness of the ES wears off and the tech of the ES wears off, you will miss the quality of the LS vs the ES. So, in your decision the LS460 is the best choice.
