Care to elaborate? This is new to me, and I'm all for learning as much about these cars as possible. Thanks!

Not much airflow going on below the hood :P It aint an aircooled porsche or something.... ! its water cooled. If the covers were in thick aluminium it would dissipate heat in a way.

I highly doubt they have any role in airflow management.

Engine bay covers are designed for noise reduction, thermal shielding (that V8 gets hot; it happens that noise reducing materials are good thermal insulators), some air flow restrictions (it shortens the length the air has to travel along the hood after passing radiators). And the covers are used for esthetics reasons as well.

Love looking at my sweet V8. I have a 430 and a 460. First thing is did was ditch the cheesy plastic covers. 🙂

I decided to leave the center one on over top of the engine, since it does manage heat and the hood, but I took off the other plastics.

The 1UZ-FE was a good looking motor; the 1UR-FSE looks like Darth Vader without the mask when the engine cover is removed

Yeah I agree, the engine doesn't look particularly beautiful...

"Manage heat and the hood" ...Nonsense.

Beautiful piece of engineering covered by useless cheap plastic covers. Top ones on my 430 and my 460 have been discarded. Thinking of doing the same for the lower front one as well. That way I'll be able to see the ground from there. I can look in and admire my horses. So satisfying !

The lower shields do aid aerodynamics, and they keep dirt and all from splashingup into the engine compartment.
