I finally tried the Toyota recommended 10k miles between changes, saved a sample and sent it to a lab for analysis. Got the results the following week with the suggestion to go 12k as all numbers still look good. This was with Mobil1 full synthetic.

THANK YOU for this report!
I feel so much better now and am going to 10,000 mile intervals with using 0-20 full synthetic
I very much suspected changing really quite clear oil at 5000 miles was a complete waste of $

I'll be sticking with 10K as well, but it's reassuring to know there's a margin of safety even there.

Previous oil change on my car was done at 31k miles when I bought it.

Earlier this I week I took my car for 35k mile free service. I thought they would do oil change but SA told me Lexus recommends oil change every 10k miles. So basically they offer 4 free service with CPO but only 2 covers free oil change.

Although the LS460 has a stupidly huge sump like an air cooled Porsche, it is NOT easy on oil.
I felt like I was an awful person for recently changing my AWD's oil at 6500 miles. It was overdue... considering 1 mile short trips to work and back in the dead of winter with the car not getting to warm up.. I probably should have changed it at 3000.
Anyway, I used a Toyota genuine filter from an online Lexus dealer. The filters had free shipping with some Lexus free shipping promotion, they might have a promotion going for the same thing through the end of the year. The oil was Mobil 1 full synthetic, extended performance high mileage. Two 5 quart jugs. ugh.
Sometimes I really miss how Zen-simple the LS400 1UZ-FE was to care for. Toyota had a great thing with that motor... it was the most perfect V8 ever.

They banned me back in 2006 for making fun of Pennzoil. I guess that SOPUS (Shell Oil which owns Pennzoil) really runs (ran?) the show over there.
Did you buy any Auto-RX? Man, was I dumb back then! That stuff did NOTHING!

Oh man.... "Auto-RX" brings back some memories, although I can't remember now much about it anymore. That kills me that you got banned for ripping on an oil... LOL

This is my mechanics position also, which is why he recommends 5k oil changes,

1UZ-FE had 5k rain intervals also...

Bingo, it's still hard on the oil even with an ocean of it. I lost faith in blackstone once I looked into exactly how they test the oil and what machines they use.

He said the same thing about Blackstone too.

You can reset the warning light yourself -
Step 1 - Switch the display to the trip A when the engine is running.

Step 2 - Turn the engine switch OFF.

Step 3 - While pressing the trip meter reset button, set the engine switch to the IG-ON mode (but do not start the engine because otherwise the reset mode will be cancelled). Press and hold the button until the multi-information display indicates that the reset is complete.
