Hey everyone. My first post here as a new member but long time owner. I currently have a 2012 LS 460 with 40k miles and since purchasing from the dealer roughly 2 years ago, there has been a persistent crackling noise which seems to come from the rear doors. Both of them although I can clearly hear it behind me when I'm driving at low speeds under 25 mph. One dealer said they would apply grease/lube to the seals and it should fix the issue which it somewhat did for about 3-6 months before I slowly started to hear it come back again. Fast forward 2 years and the noise has been back for quite some time now. Just took it to a different dealer who applied more grease to the door seals which this time around, made little to no improvement. Anyone else familiar with this issue? Any known fixes or ideas to try? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as this particular noise is slowly driving me insane. Thanks in advance!

 

You need to grease the seals in the rear doors, try a product like Shen Etsu grease, and hit the latches with some lithium grease spray, that will solve it. Mine do the same thing, I just do that every 6 months or so.

Thanks for the tips, should I just spray it on a towel and Rob it against the edge door rubber seal ? How should I apply that?
I didn’t expect that from a $70k car! I love the car though.

 

The towel will work fine. Rubber only, not the fuzzy seals.

 

The Shin Etsu is a paste. I would wear rubber gloves and rub it in with your fingers.

 

shin etsu grease is the answer. Wear nitrile gloves and just rub it on everything rubber that should be pliable. Sunroof seal, door rubber seals, around the window seals, everywhere…

a little goes a LONG way. Don’t need to be crazy with it.

 

ok thanks, just ordered it. It says silicone grease, is that right ? Should I apply it on both door and frame side rubbers or only window side ?
