Question Side mirrors when car in reverse

I noticed that my car (2016 LS 460) will move the side mirrors when I put it in reverse to show me the ground near the car so I can better aim around curbs when parking. however it only does this if the mirror selector switch is turned left or right; when in the middle position the side mirrors do not move when I put the car in R.

is this a setting I can change in the infotainment system? this is driving my OCD crazy

Not that I'm aware of. I keep my button in the center position (because it seems logical). I honestly don't like the mirror dip. I don't trust the view from the rear camera enough.

It's by design. That way they give you control over it without having to add a switch or menu item.

Yep, by design, has to be in the left or right position

If it really bugs you that much, just lower your mirrors so you can see the ground, and then save that setting to one of your buttons. That way, you can keep the selector in the centre and your OCD under control, but if you ever need to park the car you can push a button to lower your mirrors.

Haha been lurking for years before creating my account. I got that tip from the GS forum, my 03 GS300 didn't have auto mirrors.

Ever since I got this car I wondered why the mirrors don't go down in reverse... Now I'm thrilled! I always try to pull close to the very edge of my driveway and this now makes that easier!

But they do go down in reverse, at least in 2013+ cars. Check the Vehicle Settings.

That's what I'm saying. After this thread, I moved the mirror button to R and they go down now!

When I got my 14, my mirrors did not lower when in reverse like my 08 did. I didn't know if I could somehow control the mirror by adjusting and saving, but I tried and it worked. Now they lower when I'm in reverse. Don't know if my 08 even offered that adjustable feature, but because they already lowered, I figured, the 14 should as well.

I know that they went down when backing in my 2005 LS 430 and I believe that they did in both of my previous LS 400's as well.
