I believe you have to squeeze the 2 sides to bring the hooks in closer to the hole on the other side of the carpet so you can pull it up and out.

Maybe you should buy all weather mats MADE for your car??
Work GREAT!
They clip right in to the mandated carpet safety points.

They don’t make them for the 2013+ LS. And I don’t want to buy the weathertechs. I’ve used them for years and don’t like them. There is no other company other than weathertech and maxpider. I ordered custom maxpider mats for the 2012 LS460L and I want these in my 2013+. If you had weathertech or maxpider, you may prefer the maxpider.

Issue with a hole punch is it negates the water holding characteristics of an all weather mat

I was able to remove the clips using a retainer clip removal tool. You were right about them not being meant to be removed! I was able to pop off about half of the clips in the car without any damage to them. It takes some effort though! I surmise maybe using two flat bars on each long end and prying it out.

I could yes but some of the base plate broke off and I removed them. I’m going to get a Velcro strip to cover the holes. My carpet seems like there was some coke spilled on it or some nonslip treatment applied to it.
