Default Left Front "Clicking"

So I've got a ghost. On long trips (2hrs+), my driver's side front wheel begins to produce a "clicking" sound. It will stop when I apply the brakes. I've removed the caliper and can find no obstruction, loose pin/spring, etc... My wheel bearings are newish, placed in service last Oct/Nov. It does not happen when say I go to work in the morning (10mile drive). There is no obvious change in performance, stopping, turning, etc...

Any ideas?

After 2+ hours? I would have said a problem with wheel bearings that gets triggered by heat but (a) I would think that would happen before 2 hours and (b) you had them done recently.

Clicking is correlated with rotational speed, I assume? Faster you go, faster the clicks?

I’ve had something similar happen after some aggressive driving. I heard the clicking on my front driver side wheel while making a legal K - turn. My car is L-certified, would the warranty cover this?

So tonight I removed the wheel, caliper, rotor, and inspected every part of the bearing assembly and suspension. I can find no fault and yet the clicking continues. I inspected the tire for rocks or a nail, but nothing.

im beginning to think that I’m projecting that I’m hearing it from the front driver side, so I will disassemble the rear and check it to be sure.

only positive was It gave me a reason to change the oil while up on jack stands.

very frustrating

Had the same thing happen to me. Front drivers side. Bad wheel bearing. Replaced, no more clicking sound. $220 OEM on eBay.

So, I looked on Rock Auto and I changed the wheel hub bearings out on Jan 9, 2019 and it's still under the 1yr warranty. Had another unit shipped to me and replaced it last night. Preliminary results are positive and the clicking is no longer present, and I felt like I was throwing a dart with a hub being only 9 months old, but it's performing well right now.

I have not gone on a long drive, but headed to the Natchez Balloon Festival on Friday, so we'll see. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the help.

Also, if you're in Louisiana or Mississippi, the https://natchezballoonfestival.com/ is great.

Driver's side Front, but don't change it unless you're having a problem. In my case, I struggled to believe that a wheel hub bearing assembly that was less than 1yr old would be the problem, so I was looking to everything else. Through careful consideration and troubleshooting, it was the obvious last step. That is the great thing about this forum. People on here can provide ideas/considerations/opinions to help ensure that you have as much information as possible before spending money or performing work. I will also tell you to take what people say with a measure of caution and even skepticism, as they are not standing there seeing what you see, so their perspectives may not always represent what is in your best interest at the time. It is up to you the owner to discern what is helpful to your particular situation. Keep reading and good luck.
