These are perfect daily / Family cars. I have a super clean 08 IS350 and considered trading for an LS460 many times for more space.

If I had forgotten my friend told me to let him know when I sell my car, CarMax would have it now. Sure they jack up the selling price, most do. With their warranty, you can feel good about your purchase. I too just purchased an extended warranty with my new to me car. I got 5 years and 35,000 miles. Considering I put roughly 27,000 miles in 5 years on my 08, I should be more than fine. So feel good about your CarMax purchase. Congrats.

Hello guys,

Since this an active thread I wanted to see if this is a good buy.

There is a 2008 lexus ls460 with 170 k miles for $8500.

Major things which might be problematic have been replaced, like from
From Carfax:
-Drive belt(s) replaced
- Cabin air filter replaced/cleaned
- Spark plug(s) replaced
- Water pump replaced
- Tire(s) replaced

Other regular scheduled maintenance have been done too.

Is it a good deal or those miles are too damm high.

I am basically looking for a low-maintenance reliable car. I put less than 5000 miles a year.

The miles don't scare me. But what you list as "problematic" are really more things that should be routinely serviced at certain mileage/age intervals. On a 2008 LS, what's really problematic would be inspecting all 8 control arms, checking the brake actuator, and looking at the quality of the interior panels. Repairing the brake actuator and control arms would run you almost the price they're asking for the car. Interior panel replacement not covered under warranty is around $10,000. Tons and tons of threads and details on this great forum about each of the items I listed.

Congrats on your 460, the previous owner sure had no problems forking over big $$ on all of those stealer I mean dealer service calls, which makes it ideal for you. I'm an LS400 kind of guy as you can tell but anything with an "LS" in front of it is definitely ok with me. I didn't take the time to read all of the service info, but to your knowledge has the timing belt been changed? I know very little about the 460 it may not even use a timing belt Just curious, congrats and enjoy.

I am purchasing at Carmax.

The upper and lower control arms and bushings were replaced at 90k miles and the car drives great on the freeway.

What should i test on the car before I leave the lot ?
ajh I noticed in the sevice history the car had an oil consumption issue where it was down 3 qts when it was checked, was that issue ever fixed? That would cause me some concern if it was never diagnosed and corrected. You've obviously bought it already, just curious if that issue was ever resolved. Good luck and enjoy.

Regarding the oil...... the oil light came on for the previous owner in August of 2018, when they did the consumption test.

I paid Lexus of Beverly Hills to do a pre purchase inspection this past Saturday. They had the car for about 3 hours and after their inspection they said all looked good on the car except for the car needed an alignment. Nothing was mentioned about the oil or any leaks.

I am assuming if there was an oil leak, which might be the cause for the large quantity of oil the car was going through, Lexus would have told me about in when they inspected the car.

Since I have driven it, no indicators on the dash have illuminated and the car temp gauge is right in the middle.

The car is being repaired now at Carmax for the rear control arms and some burned out bulbs in the radio and various switches.

Once I get the car back I will check the oil level and see where it is

Inspect the door panels, dash and dash trim, glove box, center console for sticky/tacky surfaces. Let the car sit in the sun for an hour or so first. If there's any stickiness on any of these, you may have the infamous "melting" LS460 interior. Lexus have been replacing some of these but it's not something you want to get stuck with.

Thus far I am not happy at all with Carmax service dept as all the bulbs are out on these various switches and instead of replacing the entire switches they want to repair / replace the bulbs ....

is this repair procedure standard when these bulbs go out or are the switches usually replaced ?

i am afraid of the color of the replacement bulb won’t match what is functional now

Default Oil down issue.

I have 09 LS460 AWD. Got it in 2012 at 20k miles, right now it reads 264,460 mile. I noted It began to burn oil at about 110,000 miles. I add 1 to 1.5 q oil every 1,000 miles. It's fine with me because I buy the oil from Walmart at $14.5 for 5 q. Otherwise, it is ok.

Ray, are you sure your 460 is burning oil or losing it through the seals? You could be losing it through the crank, cams, or valve cover seals, or all three. If so,it may be a good idea to replace them at your next timing belt change, just a thought.

I never seen any drop under the car for so many bottles of oil I put in. I believe they are burned. I did notice some oil around the engine but not too much. In addition, I understand that the car has timing chain and it's lifetime. This car still runs great now and I will keep it as a backup when my children come home for their vacations. I don't want to sell it to someone with the oil burning issue.

I got a new 2018 LS500 5 months ago but I don't like it. It is too uncomfortable for me compared with LS460. So my wife drives it. I just got a 2017 LS 460 L with executive package two weeks ago for my self. It is a CPO car with a good deal, only 13,000 miles on. I believe it is my dream car because LS500 is not my type.

Ray41, you have 3 LSs?? Can you post a few pics of all three together? Congrats on your recent LS460L and LS500 purchases! Does the 2017 have DRCC and LKA? With the Executive package, it is likely to be fully loaded! That car is a keeper....

Yes, the 2017 has all functions of 2018 except Apple play.
However, it has executive chair (rear right), dvd, ML sound system and a lot more than 2018 LS500 I have. The LKA function is not as good as LS500. LKA of 2017 just push a little bit but give you a sound warning which I don't like. 2018: LKA can shake and help you yo push the car to the middle of lane.
