Default Duct tape on engine!? What is supposed to be here?

I just picked up this LS460 from a dealer last week. Today I remove the engine cover for cleaning while I replace the parking lights and saw duct tape in the center!

What was originally here? Is it fixing something ? Why do you think the previous owner put duct tape, and why didn’t the Lexus dealership I bought it from fix this before selling as they said it went through a full inspection?

Any insight would be great, was there a cover or some sort of installation?

Below the duct tape is the wiring for the engine . Most LS's have the plastic cover broken .

Yeah, the plastic wire harness cover gets brittle over time. I have black electric tape covering mine which look acceptable. I'd leave it alone since removing it will probably takes pieces of the plastic cover with it. I can already see the cracking on the bottom right side. Maybe you can bring it to their attention and they'll order you a new one free of charge.

Do I see tape over both airboxes too? That seems odd, since they are pretty easy to open and close...

Yep, i noticed that too. Looks like they taped the connection between the air intake nozzle and air box.

Thanks for the replies and clarification! I’ll just leave the tape there as you all advised to prevent further issues.

Regarding the intake having tape I think that tape is stock right? I googled a photo of a engine and it has tape on both sides also on the intake tube.

Yeah, If figured that. It was at the dealer so at least they changed the cabin filter, oil filter, did a fuel pump gasket, got the car detailed after paintless dent removal. The ones I saw from private sellers were worse so figured why not. Still have my fingers crossed though.

I do admit, its a fast land yacht! Went neck and neck with a S2K going straight. Obviously no chance in any turns lol.
