I orders a OEM key fob from a dealer on eBay and want to program to work with my car. Is this something I can do myself or is this something that requires special equipment from the dealer? Thanks.
I recently bought 2 keys for my '07 SC430. They are the type with electronics in the fob. They came with instructions how to program them which seemed an easy task that could be done without special equipment. I had a locksmith cut one of them ($35) but he wanted an additional $75 to do the programming. Tried to do the programming myself, carfully following the instructions, but I could not get my car to go into the programming mode. I'm not sure if the locksmith would use the same procedure as came with the keys or if he had some different way to do it. I will go back to the locksmith in the next day or so to see what can be done. If you got instructions with your key, try doing it your self. There are several types of electronics in these keys that they vary from model to model and year to year so I'm not sure if my instructions would work with the key you bought.
People have said you can do it but you need special software and honestly it seems you can still screw it up if you do not know what you are doing. I took one I purchased off of ebay to my dealer and they charged me $65.00 to program it. It was actually cheaper than a locksmith.
Techstream software and OBDII cable from eBay will run you $30. It's not at all difficult to do. Search the forums and everything you need to know is right here.
