Just piling on here for the benefit of anyone else that searches for timing chain cover oil leaks on the LS460. I've got a small leak at the timing cover for my 2015 - only 93k miles. I had them show me the leak, and it is in fact happening there. Cost to drop the engine and fix- $5800 - $6200 - (28 hours labor, they said). Yeah that's not happening . As recommended above I'll be just letting it leak then maybe give it go myself in the future with engine still in if it gets significantly worse. It hasn't been more than 1/4 quart / change to this point, if even that.

I have started to see a lot of UR engines leaking at the timing covers come through my shop, it's normally not a major problem but it's just like the GR issue all over again.

I'm not too familiar with other Lexus models. GR refers to some other model/engine?

Just curious, have you seen how these timing cover leaks typically progress over time? I presume they just slowly get worse, but curious to know what you've seen. My hope is to wait until the chain needs replaced and do it then, assuming it doesn't suddenly get much worse at some point.

The V6 family that is concurrent with the UR, commonly seen on the Camry/RX/ES/highlander etc

The leak usually just gets slightly worse over time, sometimes it gets way worse and leaks actively but that's rare and I haven't seen it in the V8s yet. You will likely never need to do the chain on a UR if you maintain it correctly

Just looked at the diagram .

15692 part
the current part number for those (2) o-rings is 96722-24030

This was my first project on my 20 yo 210k mile purchase - Stop the leak on my driveway! The old o-rings were more like ceramic washers at this point. The new o-rings did the job, but I was nervous about over-torquing the mounting screws and laid under the car for 30 minutes watching for any signs of leaks. Happy to say a job well done and will be working on the valve covers next.
