Default Auto rain sensor wiper issue

On my newly acquired LS, the auto wiper swipes once when on then nothing. If I place my hand over the small gel window area, it swipes. If I go through a car wash...nothing. See photo. Do you think the gel is bad? Any ideas? It’s winter here, so the car wash is the only water test I have.

I can't help but wonder that since that is an non-OEM windshield, if the replacement has something to do with it.

Same windshield. Auto wipers work well. Sounds like the sensor unit mounted on the glass itself or it’s connection or the brain needs to be checked.

The aftermarket windshields tint and solar stuff is not oem. Plus it’s slightly noisier. Not “acoustic” glass

I'm dealing with this on a Safelite replacement windshield right now. They'll swipe if you completely block the sensor but nothing with just water, meaning no intermittent wipers. They're either on and running or I have to manually hit the stalk when the water builds up. It's frustrating that I'm going to have to take it back to them for a second time to see if they can resolve. If it continues I'll be taking it up with USAA to try and get OEM glass approved and the Lexus dealer to install.

Had this same issue when I had my windshield replaced. There is a metal bracket that gets transferred over to the new windshield that mounts the sensor. It's just an adhesive mount, so if it wasn't installed properly or with the wrong adhesive, it wont work correctly. It's an easy fix that the glass shop can fix. After i had mine reattached, it has been 4 years of no issues
