My 2010 has around 65K miles on it and I am thinking about changing out the fluid in the transmission. I recently flushed my 2010 tundra tranny and now started having issues with my torque converter and do not want to repeat the same mistake. After I had the dealership do the flush and had problem is when I investigated that in the tundra it is not recommended to get a flush but instead get a drain and refill for a variety of reasons.

So my question is to those that have replaced the transmission fluid: Did you get it flushed or simply drained and refilled. Did you have any issues? Is / are there any considerations I need to be aware of?

I did mine last year, some 10k miles ago- no issues at all. The fluid is a standard service item on ls460 outside USA. You just need to make sure you take it a good dealer ship.

 

Actually 65k miles is too early for a transmission. I currently own a 2007 LS 460 L with 126000 Miles now on the ODO. It is an american spec car imported to Dubai in 2016. I am using the car for last one year and have never touched the transmission unit and differential unit. Never do a flush in the tranny.In case if you wanted to , you should only do a drain and refill.
i do not want touch the sealed unit of the transmission as it might create isues later on..my transmission is currently working perfectly fine.
i only do the normal routine service so far and chnage brake pads also. Air filter, ac filter , brake pads , engine oil and oil filter.

I might do a drain and refill once the ODO reahes 150000 Miles.

Lots of opinions concerning tranny fluid replacement-I have a 2012 and did a flush with 12 quarts of Toyota WS at my dealership at 65k miles. I'll repeat that as I'm approaching 130k. I request the Toyota WS vs the out-sourced supplier of fluids/exchange offers that dealers use. Just my 2 cents.

 

My mechanic discourages a full flush on the LS. I requested a drain-and-fill at 95K, probably the first time it has been done (we are not the original owner/buyer of the car). I will say after the drain-and-fill the LS 460 shifted incredibly smoothly and seamlessly, it just brought the overall smoothness of the car to a whole different level. Sadly, that ultra smooth operation only lasted 1,000 miles. I think some of the new fluid got diluted more when I went through air suspension modes. I plan to do drain-and-fills at the next 3-4 oil changes in hopes of refreshing the tranny fluid more completely.

 

 

DON"T GET IT FLUSHED. Not sure whey places even still do this and offer it from all the horror stories. Do a drain and fill if you think you have to. At 60K miles does not need to be flushed or drained and filled.

 

Doublebase, when you say you "kept it up", how often did you perform the drain-and-fills?

 

 

Just drained and refilled my 07 LS . It has 220,000 miles. also replaced the fuel filter and one side high pressure fuel pump gasket at the same time . All good .

 

Not true whatsoever. The manual in the international market REQUIRES a drain and fill at 96k kms. Only the US market differs due to marketing in your country.

For my LS, I did it at 100k kms or so. I let the dealer do it for 149 dollars (Toyota dealer), using WS fluid as required by Lexus,

 

Dumb Q - why is a flush discouraged? I'm trying to visualize why it's bad and can't come up with any reasons. TIA.

 

You are right . Only the international manual , like the fuel filter replacement.

 

Flushes can push sludge/particles that were in safe areas to important channels and passages in the transmission that critically need fluid and block/partially block them, it can result in a ruined or partially ruined transmission, big dollar repairs. It is just not worth the risk considering what can go wrong, drain and fills are totally safe as long as you put the right amount of fluid back in and screw the bolt back in.
