VGRS light on known issue at LS 2007?
Hi all,
I purchased a 2007 Lexus LS460 and after the purchase I read I should skip the 2007 version overhere
I found overhere in The Netherlands just a few issues possible with the car, so I checked during the testdrive, for the suspension front, for windnoise, sounds during braking and if it had a recall done regarding the engine. Every checked out fine during the testdrive a light was on showing VGRS, but it would be fixed before sale and due to that light I could fell some vibration during the drive. Also always dealer maintained and whole history came with the car.
Vibration happened indeed during the drive and the light stayed on, so I didn't pay too much attention since it was told to me and it will be fixed before sale. So I bought the Lexus, negotiated warrenty and waited until I could pick it up. After a week or so I got a phonecall from the salesman, the Lexus specialist told him he had to place a complete new 'shaft' (the part after the steeringwheel, going down in the engine room. This should cost him 4200 euro excluding taxes (roughly 4800dollar excl.) and also excluding labour.
At the moment my Lexus is standing at Lexus Amsterdam, who had contact with Lexus in Asia since overhere in The Netherlands it was the first car with a problem like this. Now are Lexus LS's very rare cars overhere but in The States it is like a regular car. Did you guys ever heard of this problem? Or is it just me again who has a not normal problem
Regarding the dealership thumbs up, although their profit is down the drain they still gave me a car which I can use, without paying anything except the fuel, also no limit on driving kilometers. And they update me on the progress. Also the trust in the car is not gone, but offcourse I'm so happy with the guarantee.
Greetings,
Eric

have fun.. I’ve had mine since last June/July love it
Parts are orded... and everything will be installed at Lexus dealership.
Somewhere middle of January the car should finally be ready. However at the moment in Congo for work and i will be back at the end of January, so i have no hurry. I rather have that it takes some time, then that they hurry it up and make a bad job.
I searched alteady for a Lexus specialist, but since the Lexus LS is rare in The Netherlands it looks that i have to go to the dealer. Found only 2 specialists and both are roughly 250-280 kilometers one way away for me.
Thanks for the tip regarding rubbers

doesn’t even have to be a Lexus specialist just someone who is good with jap cars or even high end cars. I get my oil changed and suspension serviced at a guy who does lots of Mercedes work... it’s all the same u only need dealers for computers stuff, calibrations and stuff like that. I had my rack repaired elsewhere and calibrated by the dealer for example
let me know how it goes
There was a TSB for VGRS on the 2007 and 2008 cars. It came out in 2009 if I remember right. The steering wheel did not go back to the center position after making a sharp turn.
You might find them here - https://www.carcomplaints.com/Lexus/LS_460/2008/tsbs/
This is for LS cars sold in the US, so I'm not sure how many of them apply to your car.
