Tires showed up today. Need a new set of TPMS sensors for them and then I can get em mounted and on the car. Anyone have the hookup on TPMS sensors at the moment?
I have the same Pirelli P7's on my car, they are the number one choice for the LS460 in my opinion. Quiet, durable and with plenty
comfortable grip in wet and dry driving conditions.
Frequent lurker and first time poster. I have absorbed quite a bit of great information from this forum so I thought I owed it to comment on the new tires I purchased for my 2012 LS460. There seems to be a lot of comments on Pirelli, Continental and some Michelin but not much on my pick. I have about 500 miles on a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. My vehicle: 2012 LS460, RWD, non air, 19" stock sport wheels, 37K miles. I replaced the tires, Goodyear Eagles, because of bad flat spotting and a general lack of trust in Goodyear products.
I read all of the reviews I could and the consensus pick seemed to be the Pirelli P7. Personally I have always been a Michelin person. I know some people in the tire distribution business that handle virtually every brand of tire and also provide warranty coverage. They swear by Michelin so I have been using them for all of my replacement needs. I have to admit that I have never owned nor do I think I have ever driven a vehicle with Pirelli tires so I have no experience with them. I went back and forth between the P7 and several Michelin models before deciding on the AS 3+.
First let me say that I know it's a lot more tire capability than this car needs. I drive this car on the weekends for fun and to take my wife out to dinner and the movies. It's not an everyday commuter car. The car will not be driven in the winter months so I am not worried about snow traction. I don't plan to put moe than 5-10K miles per year so tread life was not a major factor. Having put about 500 miles on them here is my feedback so far.
Ride: The ride is great but it is a little stiffer than my old tires, Goodyear Eagles. I don't mind as I like a sporty ride but if you want a lazy boy on wheels ride, it might be a bit stiff for you. In terms of smoothness, these tires are outstanding. Like glass.
Noise: I do not notice any difference in noise from the Goodyears. I do drive a lot for work so I have learned to block out road noise but not an issue for me.
Handling: I feel that these tires provide me with a bit more steering response than the Goodyears. Not a lot but just enough to notice.
Would I buy again? Yes. However, I would consider other tires too. My guess is that these tires re better designed for RC-F's and GS-F's.
Hopefully those of you deciding on new tires will get something from my early review. As I get more miles on them, I will post the feedback.

Two totally different types of tires. If you wanted a Michelin counterpart to the Pirelli P7 it would be the Michelin Premier which are also available in the LS460's size.
