Exclamation Has anyone heard of corrosion in wheel bearing causing popping usually associated....

Control Arms or Ball Joints??? Just had my 2014 LS460(72K miles) serviced at Sewell Lexus of Dallas when I started to hear a pop that was all to familiar from owning an 08 LS, when taking corners or parking lot bumps, long story short they charged my extended warranty company for lower control arms(both sides) $1400+, the same day I picked the car there goes the same POPPING NOISE??? I called to only be told my warranty company doesn't cover corrosion(wheel bearings) which they claim was the cause of the popping issues? Of course this removal and cleaning of corrosion would cost me out of pocket another $1100!!! Im only making this post as I hadn't found a Lexus Dealer Service Dept who's ever made such a repair(they've replaced wheel bearings but none removed and cleaned???) one guy says not only has he not seen it but in servicing Lexus's with 200K has not seen on with corrosive wheel bearings that caused a popping noise, LEX-PERTS please chime as I am ready to go Ape***** on Sewells service Dept!!!

Hard to believe CORROSION would cause a popping sound..... Grinding sound yes but not popping.
Who is the warranty company?? How did the dealer diagnose this problem??
This car is too new to have bearing corrosion problems..... Bearing failure maybe but hard to believe it’s corrosion.

Well, I had a wheel bearing go out at around 70k on my 2007. No popping noise, though - groaning when going through sweeping right hand curves.

Why didn't they just say the wheel bearings were bad and replace them? I certainly wouldn't pay $1100 to clean them when they can be replaced for the same money (or a couple hundred more at a dealership).

Yes my bad right front bearing was making suspension type clunking noises. In addition to the groaning / howling noises. It was really bad. What I suggest you do is get the wheel in the air that you think has the bad bearing and put your hands on 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and see if it moves. When I did it I heard the clunks that had been driving me crazy and knew I was onto something. Changing a front hub was an adventure but doable and definitely worth the time and effort.

The bearings are sealed units, they're not serviceable. Even if they are making "popping noises", which I doubt they are the reason, you don't service them, you replace them.

Now if it's AWD, it's the front axle joints and they are unfortunately in some circles considered "serviceable ". And they will make a pop or click noise when accelerating with the wheel turned.

Make sure your under body panels are tight. I had some popping going on under my car. Sounded like front suspension when I made a turn. The dealership tightened up the protective panels and all is well.
