It happens, even checking a curb can damage a wheel bearing at times.

Are wheel bearing exclusive to all-wheel drive? I've never had this issue with FWD vehicles.

True!

Manufacturer has the advantage that they get stats on number of repairs of each sub-system.

Here in cyber space for RX 2nd gen, wheel bearing issues are being reported more often and seem to be happening sooner.

Unreal!!

I just got my car day before from the dealer because my right wheel bearing was shot. Same symptoms. Fixed under powertrain warranty at 65k.

I am really afraid of this happening after the warranty expires coz my trusted Indy mechanic quoted roughly $800 to fix this. ofcourse he is the one who also pointed out that it is likely under warranty and that I should try Lexus first.

$800 is way too much money for a wheel bearing. Good thing you went to Lexus.

Replaced two rear wheel bearings already. One at 126,000 kilometers on Sept 2009 and the other on May 2010 at 140,000.

Will be filing a complaint to Transport Canada for possible safety concern.

Cost was about C$700 each.

Drove a 1998 Sienna for about 190,000 km on worse roads without any wheel bearing issues.
