2012 ls460 vs 2013 ls460
Recently purchased a CPO 2012 LS 460 from a Lexus dealer. Looking for over a year. Perfect car, right color, right, interior color, upgraded wheels, right options. Only 5540 original miles. One owner. Purchased from same dealer that originally sold the car. Lexus maintained. Very happy with the car. Noticed right off in my search that the 2013 models were about eight to ten thousand more. Understand the electronics were upgraded, some interior upgrading, slight body changes. Still the same basic vehicle, same engine, transmission, body etc. Thoughts on the major price difference. Why?

Major upgrades and improvements for the 2013 LS 460 but eight to ten grands more? Even with 5k miles that's too much of a price jump for a '13. Well it pays to shop around.

I was kicking myself when I bought the 2011, I almost bought a 14' with all the bells and whistles but when I drove it, it felt like the exact same car... I couldnt justify spending almost 25k more. the 2013+ is are nicer cars..but after putting 60 k miles in last 3 years with 0 issues this (2011) car has been phenomenal. I just passed 115k miles with many more miles to good. I usually try to sell the car around 100k but I want to keep this at-least till 200k. It looks brand new and drives like it too.

As long as you like what you ended up with, that's all that matters. Scoring a 2012 with 5,500 miles is incredible. A true grandma-to-church car..! Hope you enjoy.

As an a (happy) owner of a '13 I can attest to one thing, the '12 and older models are still amazing machines, in fact sometimes I feel the ride quality is a tad better (I also do not have air suspension). I did get a good deal on mine, but it was when I drive my neighbor's pristine LS430, did it make me take the cake on even looking to get a LS in the first place.
2012 with 5k miles, wow! That reminds me of back in '12 when I purchased my '04 s2000 with only 7k on the odometer.
Happy driving!

I came to the same conclusion when I bought my '11 back in December. It would have cost me at least $8k to get into a '13 model, and I just didn't think it was worth it. I plan on keeping the '11 for at least five years, and then possibly trading for a '17.
In five years, though, I might be more tempted by a used LC...

Identical experience when I was shopping for years ranging from '10 to '14. Exactly a $10k premium for a '13 vs. a '12 that were similarly equipped with similar miles. I see you're in FL like me so the pricing is apparently staying consistent. I preferred aspects of the '13+ interior but preferred aspects of the '10-'12 exterior. I was a little gun shy on the track pad in the '13 and I just couldn't justify paying an extra $10k at the time without being totally in love with everything about a '13 vs the '10 to '12. I ended up buying a late model '10 so I saved myself about $17k off of what I could've gotten a '13 for at the time.

Thank you. I should have added in my original posting that, yes, I did look for a year, but there was a good amount of luck involved. It went on aurotrader late on a Saturday night. I just happened to check it at 10:30 before going to bed, I think it had just been posted, wasn't there earlier, one hundred miles away. Plotted out directions and when they opened. Got there one half hour before they opened. Got a salesman twenty minutes before they opened. Bought the car right away. While I was doing the paperwork four folks came in looking for the car. All this means is that you have to be a car nut, an LS nut, to be doing this. If you weren't you wouldn't be looking every day for a year, more really. You had to enjoy looking. A normal person wouldn't be doing this. I always likened it to an antiques nut, which I am not, someone who was always looking because they enjoyed it.

I got into these cars because I walk my dog past a neighbor's house twice a day, and I always admire his dark blue LS 430, which still looks great after 12-14 years (it's somewhere in the '04-'06 range).

At the core they are basically the same car. The 13+ has some chassis tweaks, and the obvious interior and exterior freshening, and then beyond that 15s have a different infotainment than 13s and 14s, and the 16s and 17s a different one from that one. When you get in them and drive them though, they're all clearly the same car, just upgraded as each year goes by (a 17 will be better in numerous ways from a 13 even though they look the same). How much those differences are worth depends on you.
