Default LS460 cruising range

When I first bought my 10 LS460. The cruising range is astonishingly high: 420 miles considering a big V8 engine (That is only a bit less than the 430 miles of the 2017 Camry I rent for a road trip months ago!).

I have always been using only premium gasoline. Recently a full tank has only 365 miles of cruising range.

Is there something wrong with my car? Patterns of commuting do not change much (40% city, 60% highway).

Well, irrespective of the stated cruising range, has your mpg changed?

My 2007 has 125,000 miles now and my mpg has dropped by about 1 mpg since the car was new.

365 is what I average per tank, only shows the >400 numbers after I've reset the counters.

I've had mine reading high-500s, and I've gotten just over 600 miles out of a tank.

All highway, albeit all above 80 MPH, too.

The cruising range until empty is purely an average MPG x how much fuel is left calculation. I think it uses an undisplayed MPG calculation for it, too...not since reset or since refueling.

I started using Ethanol free Shell and I got 28 MPG on the highway everyday to and from work. BUT, That #$%^&*cost $3.57 a gallon. I just filled up with Nitro V-Power 93 Shell and it's just as good and it's $3.37 a gallon. I gotta see the difference before I can make a real educated guess.

I got 400 out of a tank on a trip earlier this year, but it takes a while on the highway before the system recalibrates the range figure. When I'm doing my usual school runs it gives me a much lower range, even when full. No complaints, though. This Saturday will be five weeks since I last filled up, and I still have over 1/3 of a tank left.

Silly me, I fill up once a week. I'm gonna try to do it like you do it.

That 421 is definitely a best case scenario. I've heard those things called Fuel Lie-ometer. In reality, its just a best guess as it cannot predict your future driving habits. It's taking a runnning average of what the car has done thus far and multiplying that by the remaining fuel. Do all free way trips and you'll meet or exceed that. Sit in gridlock or stop and go for most of it and you'll see less.

The benefits of working from home. I've put 2500 miles on my car this year, and 2800 on my bicycle.

Just got back from a 4 week 4500 mile road trip and every tank but one went 500 plus. The only tank that did not was the week we spent out in our home town of Geneva, NE attending our 50th HS reunion. I usually run about 75 MPH. All but the first tank and the last tank were bought at Costco's in Omaha, NE, St Louis, MO, Lexington, KY or Chesterfield, VA. There was one Shell (the first tank) and one Flying J (the last). The LS gets great mileage for the size and the speed I run.

Hope I did not get you wrong. Do you mean you did not refuel your LS for 5 weeks? If there was the case, definitely I will ask my dealer to say if anything can be done.

Perhaps it is an issue of me being paranoid. I always have an impression that fuel gauge reduces a quicker rate.

The gas gauge isn't linear. If you notice, not all the quarters are the same size. Just means the needle moves more for some than for others. Don't watch the movement of the needle, do the math on mileage to gallons used.

This thread might be helpful if you are using your car's computed MPG:

Mine is always high after a long road trip. Around town avg is a lot lower. I can gas up about every 2 weeks or so since i do not drive it much each day. I have a company car so this sits a lot.
