Sorry to see you go and best wishes with your new truck!.

Its shame some LSs are having burning oil issue. Flagship Lexus shouldn't exhibit such behavior. Again, nothing lasts for ever.....

I was talking to someone yesterday who works in the trade and he said, well what do you expect? You and everyone else think it's alright to go 6,000-10,000 miles on your oil changes thinking you're doing good maintenance but you're really just killing your rings and ruining your cars. I said, you think 6,000 miles is a lot on a high quality synthetic? He said he thought 5,000 was a lot and that he'd never exceed that...usually changes his at 4,000. Who knows? He may have a point, I don't know.

Haha! Right? Hell why don't you just drop $80,000 on a new F250 Superduty...then pull it with your new motorhome?

My sc and the LS are both built for 0-20w or 5-20w conventional oil. My shop mentions oil consumption if either oil mentioned is synthetic. He uses 5-30w synthetic in both cars with good results.
Yeah I think that when an engine ages a change in oil weight is necessary...probably not a bad idea to cut the intervals down too. Surprisingly I've heard some good things about conventional oil as of late regarding oil consumption, I would maybe have given that a try if I had kept my car.

I think the thing that bothers me is that I spent all this effort and money trying to use the best synthetic oils in my car, keep the intervals relatively low and drive it easy...yet it didn't matter. I think that's just the what can be expected now with loose tension rings that meet CAFE standards. I think you can expect this in most newer cars when they age. Honestly it's probably not an issue unless you have a direct injected car and no means to keep those valves clean (which most new cars are).

I love how these manufacturers cover themselves by saying it's acceptable to use a quart of oil in 600 miles. Unreal.

Just went thru the same issues with wife's MDX. Zero consumption till last 7,000 miles now a quart every 1000 mies. At 77,000 miles its replaced with a Highlander.

This is my mechanics position, that’s why he recommends on these engines we still do the old 5k OCI.

I kind of agree, although you'd be laughed off the "bob is the oil guy" forum for suggesting such a thing when using a high quality synthetic. They'd say you're wasting oil. But I'll tell you, today's engines seem to be working harder than ever before...timing chains slicing through that oil shearing it, turbos, direct injection, thinner oil, high pressure fuel pumps driven off the cam, intricate valve trains that need lubrication. It might make sense not to extend those intervals. And I know people will say...I send my sample to Blackstone, everything looks great! But it doesn't tell the whole story.

I build single cylinder off road four stroke race motors. If I get a oil consumption issue my first thing is to go back to a Dino oil For up to 30 hours, non detergent even. Reseat the rings if glazed. Engines run fair amount of vacuum to suck any vapors out and run them back in the motor.

Beat it. You're not welcome here anymore.

Take care my friend....it's been a slice. I may be moving on too. I'm shopping around at my options. Maybe a KIA Stinger, maybe a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, maybe an Audi. heck I'm even looking at an older Aston Martin. I just can't decide, and so for now....I'll top up my oil and enjoy the LS for what it is....solid, reliable and pretty enough.....plus it's paid for!

Again, take care.

Take care bud, always enjoyed your posts, write ups and positive outlook. Keep the 460 going for as long as you can...great cars. It was just time for a change for me. So far I'm pretty happy with the truck, we'll see if it can be as reliable as the Lexus (doubt it) but with me being the original owner it may have a chance with proper maintenance and driving.

I'll check in from time to time...lots of good folks around here.

So in the end the upper control arms didn’t fix the rattling issues you had 2 years ago?

I am a big fan of GM Trucks. I have a Chevy Tahoe 2016 and absolutely love it. They drive wonderfully and are comfortable and very simple to maintain. The new features in them make them quite capable in regards to creature comforts and technology. Although I love my Tahoe, I am really loving my LS460 right not and am quite impressed with the quality, craftsmanship, reliability, and smooth ride. All the best, congrats, and enjoy in good health.
