I know there are some good threads on how to take care of leather interior on this site, but was wondering if anyone has replaced any pieces of leather on their interior after vehicle was out of warranty, and if so, who did you use ( independent shop or Lexus) and what did you have to pay?
if you only had some pieces replaced, what were the pieces ( on driver seat, the outboard piece on lower seat cushion).
I have the alcantara leather upgrade and wondering if non Lexus shops can get it?
Any other info, advice or comments would be appreciated.
I have a 2010 460 L. The front drivers seat is cracking on the lower seat area and the color is alabaster.
Alcantara (a man-made material) is used for the headliner and A/B/C pillar covers. The leather upgrade associated with this is semi-aniline. Any good upholstery shop can get this (although I doubt you'd notice the difference). Where you very well may see a difference is in the dye color. They may have to re-paint then entire seating surface to get the color to match properly.
I believe the sides and back are vinyl, just the seating surface is leather.
Cubby, my mechanic has an 02 LS 430 that he purchased from a client. It is his personal car that he uses as a loaner as well for clients that need it. It had a hole in the driver's seat the size of a fist. He probably was embarrssed to have clients see it so he paid a local leather shop to re-leather the whole driver's seat (since there were other cuts and some areas also peeling). I do not recall how much he paid except I rememer thinking it wasn' much at all considering that the color match was amazing and it looked like a brand new seat! I believe it had the perforations too.
You might want to try a company called Fibrenew. They are franchises in most major cities with mobile trucks. They repair and recondition leather in commercial, residential and automotive settings. A high-end detail shop I have used recommends them and their work in excellent. Just Google.
