Question What is on this LS460 trunk?

Hey everyone , I am shopping for an LS 460 4th gen. I found a beauty today! A 2007 with 96K on it. I fully inspected it and everyone looks solid. However there is a round metal piece on the trunk. The guy at the dealer that seemed to think it may be related to the radio as there isn’t any other antenna or anything. Radio works fine btw. Anyway, I attached the pictures. Any insight on what it is and perhaps if it can be taken off would be appreciated.

Do you see any wires leading to it when you open the trunk?

There wasn't any wires coming out of the trunk lid to it. I did not pull any paneling back however....

Bet it's the base for a CB radio antenna. They took the radio with them but didn't bother to remove the base.

Cellphone or CB antenna. Check underneath the trunk trim - it may just be stuck on with double sided tape (passive antenna) in which case you should be able to get it off. I doubt they's drill a hole in the trunk!

GPS tracker for a cheating spouse?

If there is NOT a hole in the sheet metal under this mount I would remove it. OR.... Better yet, have the dealer remove it as a condition of the sale.

Yeah if you could make it a condition of sale I'd try it. Having said that this *is* a Lexus and they've probably thought of that and for whatever reason decided to not mess with it. The strange thing I see is it looks like there is the remains of a hinge at one end of the plate. The hinge reminds me of the gas lid for my Honda motorcycle.. but of course that isn't a gas inlet.

I've never seen a CB antenna base like that before, maybe a commercial radio or compact satellite TV antenna? Is this an "L" model?

It could be the satellite radio antenna, difficult to tell from the picture.

It is not an L model, just the Base model of the LS460. They were very flexible with the price, so I think I am going to take it to the local body shop and see what they think. If' it's more than $1000 to do something with it, I might as well just replace the trunk lid.

Maybe it was a limousine service vehicle and that was where the antenna was mounted.

Looks like the remnants of a GPS or XM radio antenna. I'd bet it's attached with double-sided tape.

See if you can get some dental floss or fishing line under the edge. If so, heat it up with a hairdryer and see if you can draw the floss/fishing line all the way to the other side. If that works, some gunk remover will get rid of the residue.

That's a really good idea. I will try that and see if it works. Thanks!
