Default Valve cover bolts

Does anyone have the torque specs for these? Found everything else but this. Thanks!

Replacing the valve cover gaskets, spark plug tube seals and fuel pump gaskets. If anyone needs help or has questions, fire away and I’ll do my best to answer!

I don't have the torque specs but I'd make sure I tightened those bolts from the inside out, but I can't imagine we're talking about anything much more than 20 foot pounds.

I do have a couple questions...

How many miles are on your car? This is a repair I imagine most of us are going to have to make eventually.

How hard was it to do? Any problem getting the valve covers off, clearance wise?

Nice work though! Looks like you got those high pressure pumps off without any issues.

Currently 125k miles - car started misfiring and went into limp mode because cylinder 3 had oil in the spark plug - spark plug tube seals were leaking so decided to do this all at once since you have to take the fuel pump/valve covers to get to it.

So far so good, no problems. I discharged the fuel pressure and let the car sit for a good 5 days (had to work) before I took out the pumps so no issues as far as fuel pressure in the lines. I'm waiting on some gaskets before taking off the valve covers. I can't find the torque specs for the valve cover bolts but it looks to be between 60 and 70 in lbs.

Finally had a day off to finish this up. Passenger side valve cover removed.

Wow look under that valve cover, it looks like it has some sort of oil spray nozzle system for the cams. Interesting.

Are right and left side valve cover gaskets different? I just realized I might need to get a separate gasket for each side.

I am changing valve cover gaskets, spark plug tube seals and fuel pump gaskets. I just found out a few of spark plugs are drenched in oil. What are your procedures for doing this job? How long it took you?

This can be done in one day easily. I took my time as I had to work as well. Left and Right valve cover gaskets are different part numbers. Don't forget the 4 small black o-rings around the fuel pump along with the obvious fuel pump gasket. Very straight forward job. Just remember to torque everything down to spec (and in order - valve cover bolts).

Sorry to revive an old one but curious how long you had the leak prior to getting misfires. I've noticed that over the past month I can visually see dampness around the o-rings and curious how much time I have left until I have a cylinder problem (or other's) as well.

In my case, I can see that the oil has made it's way to the undercarriage as well, but not enough to leak on the ground. Will be trading in the car soon, thx.
