* Not familiar with the 460... I'm still in love with my '99 LS.... So your's has the 8 speed.. Does it have paddle shifters ?... I drove an IS-F a few years back... before I got in I thought 8 speeds was a complete ****... After I drove it I was completely head over heals in love with it.. The 8 speed transmission was nothing short of superb, exciting, fun, awesome... everything... I had never driven anything with paddle shift and after the IS-F every other transmission I used was just junk. Even my A650E 5 speed seemed primitive... God I would like to put the 1UR-FSE and 8 speed gearbox in my baby... 285kw.... sigh......

I am almost positive the IS-F transmission is heavily based and according to Wikipedia is the same transmission (AA80E) For the most part the ever increasing gear ratios are often more about fuel economy targets CAFE, et al, than simply power.
That said, a 5 litre V8 making 417 horsepower in a car the size of an IS is gonna be a blast!

I've strayed a few times from Lexus, however, I always come back. I will say I am ready to switch away from Lexus again. Their customer service has gone from the best in the business to just standard, especially since my SA of many years left Lexus. He would go to bat for me and many times matched the price of an independent Lexus mechanic I sometimes use. The only newer Lexus models I would consider is the LS and a GS with the luxury package. I keep eyeing the Genesis G80 5.0, but can't get myself to pull the trigger.

*** Yes Junglequac... more gears is basically for better fuel economy but hey, I'm all for it... If my '99 LS had 8 instead of 5 I probably would have 10-15% better eco in traffic and probably more on the freeway... If I could drop the RPM by 500-1,000 @120kmh fuel consumption would drop considerably... And as for the IS-F I guess you haven't driven one.... Oh God, it was THE most exciting car I've ever driven... and the roar of the intake made my blood peculate and the 8 speed paddle shift was sooooooooooo good all I wanted to do was find corners and play with it. i didn't want to give it back... The bad thing was that I am just way not mature enough to own such a toy...I would have been locked up within 24 hours for all manner of speeding and 'manner dangerous' offenses. The authorities do not tolerate idiots like me at the wheel of a car like that. They don't see the fun side of it at all.

No. I've had numerous vehicles with paddle shifters and rarely if ever used them. I see no purpose on a big cruiser like the LS.

Congrats on your Audi. Hope it brings you the joy you're looking for in a car. I too question the Lexus direction for the future. Interesting how the original founders of Lexus brought out a beautiful new streamlined well engineered car that surpassed the boxy tired German vehicles of the day. Now it seems Lexus is resting on their laurels while all the German models have blown by Lexus with a better look and tech.

I still love Lexus. Probably looking to upgrade in the next few years. Will stick with the 14-17 years.

The Front Grill on all models went from ok to bad! I've warmed up to the 2013-2017 grill. Now it's a big *** Diamond mesh screen or all models!! WHY! WHY! WHY! Read comments on Youtube. People like it or says it ugly. I'd rather have people say it's boring/conservative than ugly. My next LS will be 2013-2017

Any Graphic artists in the house? Can someone make a cross bar splitting the upper and lower grill like the 2013? I think it would look much better that way

When the 2013 grille was first shown, it was very polarizing, and seemed such a drastic departure from the graceful look of the 2007-2012 cars. But it has grown on us, and I definitely prefer the sharper angles and meaner/edgier looks of the 2013-2017 cars compared to softer, curvier styling of the S-class. I agree the 2018 LS grille looks really extreme, but that's the look Lexus is aiming for. I like the "belt" across the grill in the 2013+ cars, but I am sure the 2018+ "beltless" grille will start looking better with time. The 2018 LS DRL "whiskers" are interesting. I hope they are sufficiently bright to look good from a distance. I really like the nike swoosh DRLs of the 2013+ for its aggressive look.

Get back to us after a couple years - I guarantee your maintenance costs will be 4X that of our 460s.

Love the Audis, but they're right up there with MB and BMW in cost to maintain the prestige!
