Yeah that's actually the case on the LS too. The car will keep running without the key, it just won't restart once you shut it down without the key.

Yep. Happens on our LX as well. Another head-scratcher. Wonder why they allow you to drive off and get yourself stranded..?

Probably something along the lines of key battery dying while driving and car shutting off. Or imagine there was a scuffle and the fob flew out the window while on the highway and the car died! Danger danger!

Exactly, you can't have the car shutting off and stopping in the middle of the road somewhere, that's not safe.

The car gives you lots of warnings the key isn't in the car.

I've had my keyfob die while driving - did know it was low since the car does give you a heads up. So in a situation like this I wouldn't want my car to just shut off. And unlike BMW and Mercedes, I don't think the LS is able to be started remotely by Lexus Link or whatever they call it now and then driven. But most cars do this.. You can drive off without your keys for as long as you want. But once it's off, it isn't turning back on.

FYI:
How to start if the battery in the fob is empty:
Open the car with the key, the alarm will sound.
Next, hold the fob near the startbutton and the alarm will stop.
You can start the car by holding the fob near the start button.
Now the car will work as usual and you can put the fob in your pocket.

The fob now works as a NFC-tag.
