Default tires

Switching over to grand touring tires. Ultra performance tires are not my thing, any input or experience with GT tires would help.

There needs to be SOME effort made to search...does one really think tires for a specific model haven't been discussed on a forum before?

I put Michelin Latitude Tour HP tires on my 2007 LS460 and was very satisfied as to wear, handling, ride, mileage and performance. I think they are my all time favorite tires. Several forum members criticized my choice of these tires, claiming that they are inappropriate for the LS460. None of the website tire-selectors that I used recommend this tire for the LS460s. I selected them after careful consideration. These are not always readily available in sizes for the LS460s.

Just understand that those are SUV/Crossover tires. Those fires came OEM on my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Not really anything wrong with that per-se, they're a very road biased tire. I replaced them with more SUV appropriate Michelins on the Jeep.

Please enlighten us about "road biased" tires. Google doesn't even know that term.

When talking about SUV/crossover tires. You have road/street biases tires that are basically like all season tires for a car, but beefier for a vehicle such as an SUV, and then you have more off-road all-terrain type tires with beefier tread.

The Latritudes you mention are very street biased tires, whereas something like a BFG All Terrain etc is an example of a much more off-road biased tire.

Read forums for any SUV, they always discuss tires in that way. Manufacturers use tires like that because it improves fuel economy, but replacing them with even slightly gripper tires really helps snow ability, off road ability, etc. On the Jeep for instance many of us replaced that tire with the Michelin LTX MS/2 which is a little beefier, better grip and traction but that didn't change the ride and noise characteristics of the Grand Cherokee much. Those tires are now retired and replaced with the Primacy LTX now, which also come in the LS460s size. Those tires also come on the GX460, and those discussions exist here on CL as well.

The Latitudes were good quiet tires but the grip really hampered the Jeep's abilities in the snow, for example.

My local dealer (Discount Tire) recommended these after I wasn't happy with their inability to balance a set of brand new P7+ Cinturatos. I requested Pilot HX MXMs instead and was very happy with them. The latitudes looked very similar to the Pilots, though.

Yep, Those are tires i just replaced. Lasted about 2 half years. If wasn't for the puncture i got i would have kept them till next spring. The Pilot Sport AS3 + have done will we had some good heavy rain tonight and it blasted right thru it. I know my HX would loose grip at times but the tread was getting very low.
