Will this be my last car
I'm 75, purchased a new LS 460 in 2013. It currently has 52,000 mils on it. Do you think this car will last as long as I do?

Can it last as long as you will? Certainly. Doesn't mean you cant decide you want a new one still at some point

Gees this is a somber thread, realizing this may be your last vehicle to own. My father bought a 2014 XTS V sport, $20K over the budget he usually spends. In earlier years I would have said he's insane. I just let him get what he wants and congratulate him. He's close to 70 and had a few friends pass away around his age. I helped my Aunt get a 2014 Mercedes CLS550, she's around the same age. She always wanted a Benz. They usually keep their vehicles for 5+ years so it is their last vehicle in their 60's

rstewart: Relax and enjoy it.. and consider who you might want to will it to. If my past experience with LS models is correct, these will do 400K without breaking a sweat. I admit that I didn't expect I would be this age and still playing with Porsche hot rods as well as "using" the various Sport attributes of my LS, but that is how it's working out. I'm sure mine will outlive me.

Somber? Nah, just realistic.
When my wife chose the 2002 RX300 she did in 2004, I emphasized, please make certain you like it because it's likely the last car you'll ever own.
She was 52-53 at the time.
She thought I was kidding.
Said RX has 144K, or thereabouts, on it, now. It's still on the OEM timing belt. I've replaced one bulb...need to replace another. That's been the extent of 'failures'. Granted, I did put new drive belts on it, but that was out of paranoid more than anything (yeah, I know, I know...what about the timing belt?! I'll get to it...).
When I got the LS I have, it hit me in the next couple-few days, this could very well be my last daily driver.
I'm good with this.

considering the insane lifespan of the LS in general, yeah, it could very well outlive you. seems like the avg lifespan of an LS is about 20ish years, which will put you at 95 years old. ive always told older folks that if they can afford it, go get the toys while you still can! go get the nice car, the nice house, the boat, whatever. cant take it with you when you go. i use to encourage my dad, who was very well off but very frugal with his money, to go get the toys while he still could. he didnt listen sadly. lost him november 7th to pancreatic cancer. he was 57, never got to retire and never got his dream car. he had plenty of nice cars, but he always wanted a maserati. never got one. he always had Mercedes E and S classes, and bmw 5 and 7s later. he died with a 2009 bmw 760li, a mustang convertable, but the last car he bought was a honda accord. :/

While I'd agree that your LS can last another 15 years, I think you would want something newer before then. Maybe a self-driving LS700? That's the one I'm looking forward to!

I'm 45. I don't think the LS will be my last car. When they release the LS500 in V8 form, I will consider that one, once I find one well used. But ... it's my truck that I wonder this about. I had just turned 28 when I bought my Dodge Ram, with a Cummins. I still have the truck. And it is really great. Loud enough to wake the dead, love that too. Unless the truck gets stolen, crashed or blows up, I plan to just keep it. It doesn't do much wrong. I just put a Denso ($250) starter in it. The original lasted 17.5 years. I chose a $250 Denso over $110 Chinese knock-offs because I plan on keeping the truck. My youngest son (12 years old) lists off the vehicles he's gonna own when he graduates college. And always one of them is ... my truck. So I keep saying to him, "what truck am I supposed to drive if you take mine?"
Guys at the BMX track keeps saying, "as soon as you're ready to sell, give me a call." I keep telling them I'm not ever going to sell it.
Before BMX.
Now ... bed cap due to BMX bikes and equipment.
