LS 460 L Electrical issues in console
Just a quick update. The battery did indeed have corrosion especially on the positive terminal. I decided to get a new battery from Toyota, but it had to be ordered. During the install process, it was determined that the positive battery cable had to be replaced. For that reason it has taken a while to respond. To date we have not been able to recreate any of the issue we had previously. I will post again if the problems recur. Thanks to everyone for your insights.
Good job on the corroded battery connection. I don't think it was causing any of the problems that you described but it would have certainly caused problems soon. Just the fact that it was badly corroded may be an indication that the battery is nearing the end of its life as the corrosion is a slow process and is usually dealt with when the battery fails. Be sure to have the battery tested and replace it if indicated.
The problem with the headlights is probably related to "end-of-life cycling" of one of the headlight HID bulbs. That means that you need to replace one of both of the bulbs. And, to be clear about how the headlights are extinguished automatically: the "AUTO" position on the light control stem has nothing to do with extinguishing the headlights after the ignition is turned off. The car is equipped with a feature that turns all the exterior lights off, after the ignition is turned off, after a time delay of 30, 60, or 90 seconds (customizable), after at least one door is opened and all doors and trunk are closed. This feature is automatic and does not have any controls.
The "AUTO" on the light control stem enables a feature that automatically turns the headlights off and on, when the ignition is on, in response to ambient light conditions. It's best to leave it in the Auto position to insure that your headlights are on when they need to be on.

Thank you for the clarification of the auto function for the headlights. It also seems that replacing the headlight bulbs is inevitable. For whatever reason, we are still symptom free from electronic problems in the console, and for that we are thankful.
Yes, Xenon HID bulbs go out (typically around the 9-10 year time). Buy the bulb on Amazon for about $20-$30 and install it yourself (see video on this forum) and don't pay the dealer $600 to change the bulb!
Thanks for the tip relative to the replacement of headlight bulbs. I will look for the video. Unfortunately, the problem with our radio is back. It came on when the passenger side door was closed this afternoon. At an appropriate time we will get help from one of the locations that were so kindly recommended.
We have a 2007 LS 460 L. Several unusual electrical issues have arisen. The radio will turn on when applying the brakes firmly and occasionally when depressing the temperature adjustment button. In addition, the dash lights and the GPS display were dim upon start-up on one occasion. Frequently the passenger side headlight does not remain on at night after the car is off when the headlight switch is in auto mode. Are these issues related in some way? Any suggestions?
Headlight problems like you are experiencing have been reported extensively throughout this forum for many years. The most common cause is HID bulbs that have reached the end of their lives. See Post #19 above.
