Default E Brake/Parking Brake seizing

Recently, I've noticed that on occasion, my parking brake is locked up when backing up. I haven't recalled anyone with a similar issue here at CL. Nor have I seen any posts about servicing the E brake system (replacing brake shoes etc).

Anyone have anything to share?

Do you hear any noise? Hopefully it's just some rust stuck under the hat of the rotor getting against the shoes. It could be that or sometimes the hold down spring pins can break due to rust, causing the shoes to walk off the backing plate and catch into the rotor. Rust can do some crazy things to e brake shoes. I'd pull the rotors off and take a look.

Yeah there's a noise....like a typical dragging of pads/shoes, but goes away when the siezing stops, after a few seconds. It hasn't done it again lately, but I'm going to order a set of shoes and hardware and replace them.

100% mechanical. I think the shoes are sticking due to springs or similar. 190k kms on original shoes and hardware so no surprise.
