thanks for all the help.
Not sure what changes but we went back and lifted up on it and it opened. Had a sleeve of a jacket crunched into the mechanism where it latches and it was binding I guess.

2 Many Lexus-(If you haven't fixed it yet)
I could not find the $10 (I'm guessing) plastic position sensor anywhere so I had to purchase the whole latch assembly.
I disassembled the position sensor and it was cracked and one of the conductors for feedback for positioning was broken.
I'm just curious that way and I monkey around with things and figure out how they work--these Lexi are pretty complicated though.
My suggestion-order the latch assy. from Amazon--if it doesn't solve the problem--send it back and get a refund.
I think it is only 3 bolts and a couple plugs--piece of cake.

Good luck,

Tony

Default My 2010 trunk latch stopped working this morning - finally fixed it

CL is awesome!!! I followed the instruction given here, opened the trunk latch assembly, found that the round plastic position sensor switch was broken, the bottom portion got separated from the top. I put both pieces together and drilled a hole through them in the middle and then inserted a pin through them and bent both ends of the pin, so that the plastic pieces do not come loose. Put the latch assembly back, now the trunk latch works fine.

The white plastic position sensor was broken and
shut down the power trunk.

Replaced the trunk latch assembly and did the battery reset and works like a champ!!
I know this is an old post, but I'm working on the same problem. I have a new trunk opener installed ... what is the battery reset procedure?

Thank you.

Open hood to car, Disconnect a battery terminal, Wait about a 1/2 hour... put back on.. And that is how you do a battery reset procedure...

Just keep in mind, you do lose your pre-sets on your radio when you do this, so I might say write them down, or take out your cell and snap a pic of each page...

I am having the trunk latch issue with my wife's 2011 Lexus LS 460L. Initially she came home complaining that she couldn't open it. The next morning I went out and pulled the negative battery cable for 10 seconds and then reattaching it. I was then able to open the trunk with the key fob. I then manually shut it and it closed. Next time I went to the garage it opened with the fob, but wouldn't close. I lowered it manually and it closed but opened right back up and the latch continued to cycle from open to closed for several reps before stopping in the open position. It no longer responds to the key fob or buttons on the trunk (valet button in the glove box is depressed). However, if you lower the trunk lid or push in on the latch it will start cycling between opened and closed for several reps alway stopping in the open position.

If I use the emergency handle in the trunk I can hear it making noise but it doesn't affect the latch (already in the open position). Same thing when using the manual key. You can hear something happening, but the latch doesn't move. When the car is cranked the trunk is open message is on the dash (which makes sense since the trunk is in fact open). I tried adjusting the metal hoop/hook that the latch attaches to on the lower part of the trunk upward, but that didn't help.

I am at the point where I want to take the latch off and see if I can figure out if something in it is broken or bent, but haven't been able to find any instructions on how to remove the carpet trunk lid cover. I am assuming I have to remove it before pulling the plastic cover off of the latch. There are two small black plastic clips near the middle of the trunk cover. I was able to remove them with a black plastic tie, but that doesn't really loosen much. I don't see any other clips and hate to just start prying on things without knowing what I am doing because that usually results in something getting broken.

Can anyone give me some instructions on how to get to the latch so that I can take it off? I assume this will also require me to remove the carpeted trunk lid cover, but not sure.

UPDATE

After removing the carpet I was able to remove the latch. The plastic sensor had separated into 2 pieces (2 circular pieces that snap together). After straightening the contacts on the inside of the 2 pieces, I snapped them back together. After reassembly and an attempt to operate the latch, the pieces came apart again. I disassembled the latch and removed the sensor. I was able to put the pieces back together using a small screw threw the middle of the sensor as someone suggested in another thread. The screw was a little too long so I had to grind a couple of millimeters off of it. Once everything was reassembled, the latch worked perfectly.

I was able to fix my trunk today following this thread. The round inside plastic piece was missing, but I found it under the spare tire. And was able to reattach it using a screw through the middle of the 2 plastic pieces. Also had to remove the negative terminal briefly to do a reset. I'm grateful for club lexus

Default Very Frustrated

I realize that this post is a few months old. i'm new to the forum and couldn't figure how to post a new one. I just purchased a beautiful LS 460 L with 54k Miles. The only problem is the trunk will not open from a locked pos. I have exhausted every known method that has been discussed in CL but to now avail. ( I am a pretty good Back yard Mechanic) But this is one I have never come across. My question is to anyone who has faced this situation, Have they tried to take the two bolts off the bottom latch.( while still attached to the upper Boot actuator) it can be accessed through the rear seat. There is a plastic plate inside the trunk below where the trunk closes near the trunk lever.

Mitchell - I replaced the entire mechanism after getting tired of always needing to use my key (pulls out of the key FOB) to open the trunk. It was a full-day project (I'm slow), but really not that difficult. I'm assuming you've already tried the key in back? Not sure if that helps, but thought I'd respond.

Did you get any good instructions on how to remove the trunk lid liner, to get to the latch. I have a 2010 LS460 and trying to replace the latch motor but having problems removing the liner.

thanks for the detailed instructions—do I really need to remove all that you indicated, simply to get to the latch assembly?

Default Trunk Lock Access

You don't have to remove all that stuff to access the latch. However, you should follow the instructions, paying close attension to light & clip removals, as they can easily break. Follow the instructions until you gain sufficient access to the latch. 4 bolts more and your done. Good luck.
