Default High Beam HID

I'm sure there's a thread on this but I'm on my phone and it's harder to search. Has anyone installed an HID kit in the high beams. Do you need a harness to make it work. I'm going to turn off my DRL with Carista, do I still need another device to make it work? I have 2007 460 SWB.

HIDS aren't well suited to high beams because they aren't instant on. You would loose your flash to pass feature, and they would take a second to click on and warm up, which might be dangerous in certain circumstances.

I don't use flash to pass that often if at all. I just want as much light as possible for some of these dark, windy FL roads.

X2^^^ Potentially dangerous when you need "instant" high beams on dark winding roads to see animals and people.... A lot of distance can happen very quickly at 50 mph during a 5 second "warm up" to full brightness. I highly suggest staying with stock for everybody's safety.

Since no one really answered your question: The install process for HID's should be the same install process as installing an HID kit on any other car. Any HID kit you pick (that's compatible with the light bulb type) should include any "harnesses" you'll need. I haven't looked in the LS's headlights but I'd wager it's just plug and play. You would need to find a way to mount the ballasts though. The HID's will take a few seconds to warm up to full brightness but if you never use flashing or anything like that, you'll be fine. You could also consider going LED if you can find some that are bright enough since they have the "instant-on" that everyone is talking about.

I do find it laughable that the LS didn't just come with bi-xenon headlights until 2013 because the halogen high-beams are woefully inadequate.

I think it'll be very hard to install some aftermarket HID unit into out headlights. I don't think the ballast will fit inside the housing. I think we need to put the twist cap back on so we don't get condensation.
For the LED and such, we use the anti-flickering module thing-a-majig..., those things are small and can squeeze inside out headlight housings.
Or, you can get the 600 lights... looks much nicer. Not sure what MY fits what MY though...

I just posted this yesterday which is something you may want to consider https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...-solution.html

HID for high beam is a bad idea. Mainly because the ballast most certainly is too wide and will not fit in the housing. And most importantly, HIDs take 20 to 30 seconds to reach maximum brightness as the ballast ignites the gas in the bulb, and in a high beam on situation, it's usually flash to pass or you need light now..not 20 seconds from now.

My solution is LED with instant on/off and the housing easily fits the LED driver which is a fraction of the size of a ballast. Add the PWM module if you want it to be your DRL. Or turn your DRL off and skip the PWM module and it will work without any other cancelors/capacitors

And just a tip on searching. Use this formula on your phone while in Google to find practically anything on ClubLexus
"ClubLexus.com (topic) LS460" or in this case "ClubLexus.com high beam LS460" and you will find endless discussion
